New plugin: ABC Australia - shane - 07-18-2009 06:45 AM

Hi. I've been working on a new plugin for the downloadable content on the ABC website (Australian Broadcasting Corporation).

It's got 26 shows, and how ever many episodes each show has online. Most of them are updating weekly a few hours after the show airs.

http://www.b-int.net/abc

(I don't think it's region restricted but if someone outside Australia could test that for me I'd appreciate it)

Tested from Germany:

- The menu works fine, only the fonts look a little bit blurred.
- The clips don't work for me. The first clip i get only the buffering screen, then I get back to the menu.
If I want to stream another clip I get only the "Could not play" message.

Regards,
FLaSH

Thanks.

Someone told me they couldn't play them from the ABC website either so their must be a region block on them (it had worked for me with a Mexican proxy so I assumed it would work for other countries).

Nevertheless I added it to my FLaSH Hours community plugin.
You can find it in the "MSP Community" section, it's the 5th icon on the top.
So it should be easy for anybody else to test it...

It would have to be a good, honest Australian because a pom will claim to have watched it, only for the replay to show that they'd dropped the remote on the ground and hadn't actually even bothered looking at the tv (not that I'm taking the loss badly).

Reading a few comments on forum at the abc site I think they might have rolled out some region restrictions on the videos over the past few months. So it's probably not going to work outside of Australia unless you trick the internet somehow.

But if you're in Australia and you're with iinet or a couple of other ISP's it's unmetred traffic so it should be quick and free.

Good news I have just tested it and it worked for me.

Tested with Einstein and Gardening Australia and both worked fine.

Could just be that ABC Australia have OK'd the UK due to the countries close links. For anyone that doesn't know Australia is where the UK sends its criminals Big Grin

...and then Australia sends them back to the UK to buy up all the newspapers.

Thanks Chris.

No problems thought you'd be pleased to know it works outside of Au.

Can any others just test so we can see if there are other countries where it can be accessed.

It's a bit hit and miss to what they make in an mp4 file. A lot the shows are on iView which is flash video so that's no good.

I made the list pretty much from the shows on the Download page but if you tell me what shows you're after I can check them out and try and add them in.

Hi Graf
I have just bought a E-Great 31B a few hours ago. I am an Aussie living in Jakarta ad am in the process of setting up NMT and thought I would have a look at the forumns. Yours was the first I saw and I got very excited!

Apologies for the ignorance but...What do I need to do to test your plugin?

If you go onto Web Services, then down to MSP Community, then onto videos - there's a link in there with a picture of a tv and the ABC swirly thing.
