Some Displays or Video Processors work better with YCbCR 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 in input.
So +1 for YCbCr output.

If someone has video testclips then please forward them to me.

That remark confused me (and i asume u are commenting to deep color). I always thought deep color is nothing more than the interpolation of color spaces, which is specified in the HDMI 1.3 standard. Sigma states on their site that the 8643 chipset features Deep Color, so isn't it just a question of enabling/disabling this (hardware) feature of the chipset? A feature like deep color is the same as a feature like resolution upscaling (imho), so I'm currious how you can test these features using testclips. To me that doesn't make any sense, but that might ofcourse just be the lack of my knowledge Smile

regards

HDMI 1.3 (source: http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/faq.aspx):
# Higher speed: HDMI 1.3 increases its single-link bandwidth to 340 MHz (10.2 Gbps) to support the demands of future HD display devices, such as higher resolutions, Deep Color and high frame rates. In addition, built into the HDMI 1.3 specification is the technical foundation that will let future versions of HDMI reach significantly higher speeds.
# Deep Color: HDMI 1.3 supports 10-bit, 12-bit and 16-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths, up from the 8-bit depths in previous versions of the HDMI specification, for stunning rendering of over one billion colors in unprecedented detail.
# Broader color space: HDMI 1.3 adds support for “x.v.Color™” (which is the consumer name describing the IEC 61966-2-4 xvYCC color standard), which removes current color space limitations and enables the display of any color viewable by the human eye.

How about adding the ability to automatically switch output resolution to match what is being played (aka "video direct" mode) so that your display or a video processor can do the scaling instead of the PCH?

This has been discribed as a "niche" feature when requested in the past but seems much more useful to many more people (IMHO) than deep colour support would be!

Or how about adding a wake-on-LAN feature so that the PCH can automatically wake up a sleeping NAS or Windows Home Server whenever it's turned on?

Again, much more useful than deep colour!

Ah, much the same request as I've posted in another thread. However, the wol magic packet should be sent whenever the server doesn't respond, not just on power up.

Agreed!

+1 and then some for that Smile

Wrong thread guys...

Feature requests have it's own area in the forum.

The reason is that your posts in this thread will be buried and your request will be lost.

Well, I was responding to what Werner said Undecided

Yeah. Tried that before.

But any feature request soon gets lost and there's no feed back such as master list of feature requests and an indication of whether they've been accepted, declined or are under consideration.

"Video Direct" has been requested many times in the past by many different people but the threads just fizzle out without any official comment.

I understand that bug fixes must come first but an indication of additional features that are being considered would be nice.

BTW, a video direct mode would be a major advantage over other media streamers and would make the C200/A200 much more desirable for the serious AV enthusiast!

That tells me the feature request just doesn't have the numbers needed to justify Syabas doing it.

It's not a dead-end process though IMHO because the users who wanted Playon/Netflix to work on the C200 persevered and got their feature request worked on.

Not all feature requests go into the trash bin. It just may seem so.

I just hope the bug with the low center channel volume (dialog volume) gets fixed on 5.1 encoded files...that is a MAJOR bug!

I've watched a tremendous amount of movies (untouched BD remuxes and BDMV folders) on my girlfriends ancient HD Ready TV, which of course is going C-200 HDMI -> 2.0 downmix and have yet to come across this centre channel issue.

I would assume it's something to do with crap downloaded from the internet.

Did anyone post any samples?

Cheers,

-jj-

How would you get this bug if you don't have a center channel?

I have never experienced this bug.....

jj666 is our best beta tester with the most commercial BD among all of us.

I'd believe him.

As far as I understood it, they're going 5.1 to 2.0 which is where the dialog is extremely low volume (ie, it would be suggested that the centre channel mapping is screwing up during the downmix). Unless I'm misreading the several threads in the last weeks.

Of course, for playing back 5.1 audio to 5.1, ie, my home setup, I've also never experienced this bug - which is why I say, it's got to be something about re-encoded junk downloaded from the internet (which is the part that I'm not doing).

I remember someone whining about centre channel being low on AC3 passthrough, so I asked him to check the dialnorm settings on the file, but he never reported back. That's the only thing I can think of that would make a low volume for the dialog when bitstreaming the audio... Of course, samples would help, which I why I asked...

Cheers,

-jj-

The only way to find out which features would be popular is to run a poll of possible contenders as a sticky and let the people decide. Which has never been done as far as I'm aware.

Syabas would be able see what would be popular and comment on whether any such feature is actually feasible or not.
