Sometimes when i want to select the subtitles in a dvd movie the C200 freezes and does nothing anymore. The only option to unfreeze is completely power down the C200. Maybe this is the wrong place to ask this but i hope someone can help me. Thanx in advance I only got this problem when i am trying to select subs in a dvd movie where the subs are embedded. I have the same issues -- playing BD and stopping (or FF or REW or chapter skipping) and after a bit, it gets unstable and locks. Leave it in stand by mode for a while and it's 50/50 it'll hang after it wakes up and tries to play any media. Even when playing, it often ignored the I/R remote control at weird times. In the increasingly rare times I use the thing, I always just start off with a full power-cord-removing reboot before playing. Which is pretty sad. I have to admit i do not have that many BD content, but my favorite is U2 - 360@rose bowl and this works fine. And my Onkyo is happy with the DTS-HD-MA stream.

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask this but i hope someone can help me. I saw this problem for the first time (just last night) when playing subtitles from a Japanese movie. If I turned them on from the DVD menu, the first subtitle would flicker then go off - a couple of seconds later, the C200 would lock up (note that quite often with the C200, setting subtitles on from the DVD menu doesn't actually turn them on). If I turned them on from the C200 remote, the same thing would happen -- the player would lock up solid a couple of seconds later. I use subtitles almost all the time (getting old, I guess) on DVD, BD, etc. and this is the first time I've had a video that would lock up the player just by turning on subtitles. I still have the old May firmware, so it's probably just the particular title in my case, but it sure is annoying that content can affect the C200 so easily -- and so drastically. At this stage in the C200's life, there shouldn't be anything that would lock it up such that a power-down reset is needed to bring it back to life. I wonder if this has been discovered before. I tried to deleta a folder via the file menu (mark it and then remove it). First I had to wait (hour glass thing was circling) it stopped responding, I had to reset my PCH. This was caused by a file in the folder that was read-only (644). After removing it I could remove the folder. Allthough it might be right that I can not remove the folder, it should not stop responding. Is this a known bug and is it solved in the coming firmware? It might not be that urgent, but I like to report this anyway. Regards, Deepak. Nice diversion. Perhaps your name is Jack de Vries? Again, what if BD "magically" becomes more stable with the new firmware? What was all that talk about incompatible BD ROM drives? How many posts have you seen in this thread about incompatible content? And we don't have RC3 now. So we don't have it now. Simple as that. Since I upgraded to the new firmware in may My PCH-C200 Seems less stable. I was quiet satisfied with the older firmware, but since the newer firmware would have nicer music features. I chose to upgrade anyway. The PCH is slower, less stable the music feature (green button) only works with mp3 ( I use a lot of flac) and sometimes it causes hangups, stuck in the "busy circle"when I press play (instead of OK). Sometimes it workes fine ....sometimes it doesent. And irraticc crashes and reboots of the machine Streaming movies to my A-200 in the bedroom is also less stable... It must be the new firmware too since I did not change a thing in my network configuration... I thought my problems would have gone soon... since there would be a fast new firmware.... still waiting 4 the new firmware... it feels like ages.... Maybe i wil go back to the other firmware..and see if that is better... I think that there is always much more changes made than pointed out in the release notes... New SDK from Sigma = new libraries = many, many things now might be working in quite different way. That concludes that there is no guarantee that the new firmware shall solve all old issues or that there shall not be any new problems... Even the old problems may suddenly comeback in unexpected way or configuration. So testing, testing and once again testing is so valuable for this Firmware release! RE: [C-200] Firmware 02-02-100428-19-POP-408 (02-02-100318-19-POP-408 Apps) (07.05.2010) - Dave_D - 08-16-2010 04:21 PM Even if it was a few changes, QA still needs 3 days before it gets the go ahead. In the interest of transparency, I'm willing to share again some insight how beta testers do their responsibilities. A cycle goes something like this; Friday - Beta released to testers. Monday - Reports from testers go to developers and changes required (until Tuesday) Wednesday - QA gets firmware for testing. If all goes well it gets released Friday. Personally I make darned sure I submit my reports on a Sunday evening since I am in the same time zone as the developers. There's some pressure trying to find bugs within 48 hours of receiving the beta so you can imagine how much content a beta tester has to go through. In my time zone, I get the firmware around 10pm Friday. I then get busy... I have a preset list of content I go through that includes; Video: BD ISO, BDMV, MKV, MKV+HD Audio, AVI, M2TS, MP4, AAC tracks Audio: MP3, M4A, Flac, AAC, WMA Subtitles: SRT, SSA/ASS I have set them all in one Hard Drive so I just slap it in the C200 and ready to go through them all within the next 48 hours. I then have my laptop next to me with a notepad and the beta tester forum chat to share findings as soon as it occurs. A typical report from me goes; I. Playback Testing - BD ISO tested: Movie 1 ~ Movie x (check navigation, PIP, subtitle, forced subs, BD Menu) - BDMV tested: Movie 1 ~ Movie x (check navigation, PIP, subtitle, forced subs, BD Menu) - MKV testing: I don't list movies (too many), but I do test all buttons on remote to see if they all function as they should (play, forward, rewind, 0% to 90%, chapter, subtitle, SimpleBD). And test header compression (RC2) - MKV + HD Audio: check HD audio codec if output correctly on AVR - AAC tests: Check for multi-channel output on PCM (since no AVR can work using RAW). - Anime testing: Best content for checking ASS/SSA subtitles If I see something funky the report gets longer identifying the issue and I post my experience on the beta testers forum. OTHERS MUST be able to replicate my findings or else it's a case of boy cried wolf or basically I effed up. II. System - Networking: Stream BD ISO via SMB, NFS. It should work on 10/100 and AUTO. - FTP testing (I have a Mantis entry I'm watching) III. Apps - Youtube: check for buffering, video problems, interface, UI - Revision 3: check for buffering, video problems, interface, UI As soon as I submit, I also head to the Mantis website and update all Mantis entries I personally have submitted since the start of the beta testing for this new SDK. I have reported over 15 myself so if there's around 50 active beta testers, you can imagine how much we have all added to the Mantis. This is MY process, there are other testers who have different specialties, some have more commercial BD so they use the BD-ROM drive to test for playability, some test Music, some test more Anime and subtitles and so on and so forth.... All of the above I have to do before Monday morning and I still have to do normal family duties with the wife and kids so pretty much I spend 5 hours a night as soon as the wife and kids go to bed leaving me awake till 4am. So even if there was just a few changes, I don't think it will make things faster. I hope this clears up the process. Additional insight: I also remember Werner telling us that one of the processes QA goes through is to flash their in-house C200 units over 20 times, going from the 1st firmware back in 2009 to the latest RC3 and flash it back (downgrade). It should NOT brick their testbed units if it will be released on a Friday. This probably accounts for the instances wherein we had 2 weeks period between betas because it failed QA so it had to go back to the developers. We got this info from Beta2 when we had a couple of RMAs from the beta testers who bricked their C200 units so like you, we also sometimes feel exasperated, frustrated and trying to squeeze more info out of Syabas. For some, a RMA takes more than a couple of weeks. Speaking only for myself, I am comfortable because I still have an A200 to keep the family happy, other's aren't so lucky. If you're applying for beta tester, I highly suggest you at least have a backup media player like a A-200 or A-110 handy. Also have a couple of display devices in your setup to distinguish a problem whether it's indeed a C200 issue or it's caused by incompatibility with your TV's or AVR's manufacturer. Not every problem is caused by the C200, other electronics manufacturers have issues too. It's just you don't notice them since they don't have open forums like Syabas for it's owners to spill their guts to. |
