You don't want to be copying 50GB Bluray rips over the network.

That's the way to go, I originally had my hard drive formatted with the apps on it and it was a pain to move large files to it so I installed the USB apps and reformatted the hdd in NTFS. I did buy a 320gb 2.5 drive for it but haven't installed it yet. The USB stick works just fine.

Hello, BanditRider and thanks a lot for your reply!
I've thought about using a USB stick, but haven't implemented this solution yet.. Perhaps now, with the new internal drive I will do it...
Apart from this, I don't really have a problem with file copies, since I have a dock for internal hdds, my home seedbox is a linux server (no NTFS needs there..) and my desktop is a Windows 7 machine with an ext driver. So the NMT HDD is nowhere a problem for file copies... Wink
Anyways, the important thing is that I can use the WD20EARS without any issues (which is the first thing I'll prepare once I get home from work!)
Thanks again!!!

Why do you advise a 8 Gb USB Stick?
In theory 2 Gb is enough, but I would advise a 4 Gb. So you can install some things on it, like CSI stuff. But maybe you have a good reason for using 8 Gb. Just curious.

I use an ICY DOCK MB877IK mounted internal to my PC.
And a Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U external USB and eSATA hot-swap docking station.

eSATA or internal SATA are the fastest way to transfer files.

I use FTP for files less than 2GB.

I don't think 2GB is enough. 4Gb is the minimum I'd recommend. 8GB is just for some extra (testing) space. I use a 16GB.

@ChrisZathens, Actually, I run Fedora Linux on my PC and partitioned my internal and external drives to ext3 with GParted. No problems at all. There are no Windows PCs in my house. I'm hoping for an Android tablet in January-February.

Ahh ok, thanks for your answer.

Some AVI's I have seem to play fine for awhile.... I use the number keys to skip to a percentage of the movie like 7 for 70% or 9 for 90% etc. After doing this on a few movies none of the avi's work anymore. Selecting any of them takes me right back to the menu. My bluray rips, ISO's etc still seem to work. A restart seems to be the only thing which will get them working again.

Just thought I'd mention this to see if anyone else has this issue or if anyone can reproduce the issue. Some times I also use the time seek button so it might be that or a combination.

Thanks.

almost everyone can once the player is crashed only a reboot brings it back jumping around avi files does it the fastest as avi index files can contain a lot of junk

This has happened ever since the August firmware release. After a lot of playing about trying to find precisely which AVI's fail I have never found a 100% fail or 100% work example, although some codecs seem to be a lot more problematic than others.

Only solution that I have found that always seems to work is to remux them with AVIMux_GUI to the 'mkv' container rather than 'avi'. Fortunately since this is only a remux and not a re-encode you don't lose video quality and it only takes a couple of minutes on a movie length video.

May firmware release and before never gave any problems.

Does any one else have problems playing original blu ray discs since this firmware version? When i insert a bluray it says it cannot find the disc. If i insert an DVD it works just fine. Tried resetting to factory defaults but nothing.

Any ideas?

Did you try to set the region code?

I checked the region code and it was set to the proper one (region b). When i checked the drm key with the following command "Slow(|<) ,2 ,8, 2, 8" it mentioned bd type c keys found. do not know if that is relevant.

I tried downgrading to an earlier version with no luck. I recently upgraded the apps since a long time. maybe thats what causing it..

Did you install the region app with CSI?
If so, then you have to reinstall that with every new firmware.

Didn't changed any regions settings. I barely played any original bluray's yet so i don't know exactly when it stopped working. I just looks likes it doesn't recognize the disc itself. But discs that worked before won't work anymore.

I tried freeing up some space on the internal hard drive but that didn't help either.

Strange then. I guess you rebooted already.

Maybe someone else has an idea?
