USB HDD - EXT or NTFS? Or just get a NAS
I want to add an external USB HDD to an A110 for networked file storage. What is the better format - EXT or NTFS? Are there any advantages/disadvantages? Mainly concerned about write speed.
Also, does anyone know what the read/write speed of the NMT is? It seems very slow. How much of a speed difference would there be if I use a cheap NAS like the LG N2A2? (though want to try saving the extra $ if there is no big difference from the NMT) |

RE: USB HDD - EXT or NTFS? Or just get a NAS
Using the popcorn as a NAS not really a good idea, is the external just for media storage for playback on your pch?
I have to assume you already have a disk in the pch to run the samba server from? If the nas is for other machines to use for files other than just playback on your pch, I would suggest you get a different device to be your nas. Doing a samba copy of files to the pch (A110) the best you can get is about 3.5MBps and that is to the internal drive, to an external usb might be slower?? Also I would use ext vs ntfs, so you don't have the extra overhead of the ntfs driver. FTP to the pch is much better than samba -- I see about 7MBps using ftp writing files to the internal drive on the pch. |

Thanks.
I actually noticed that my new Linksys E4200 has a USB storage device. Connected a hard drive to it and managed read/write over the network at around 6.5MB/s which is good enough for me. |

I get good speed (over 5 MB/s) to other devices but to my A-110 it is just 1.4 MB/s (the wireless adapter is tp-link tl-wn841n). With my old g-class router I was reaching 2 MB/s and at least was watching the 720p videos wireless. How I can not watch even the 720p's. Can your Popcorn read the network with better speed? Is there anything I can do? |
