Reading ISO's - SACD & DVD-A
I searched and could not find anything current. Does PCH read ISO's of DVD-Audio and SACD? If not, how are users playing those media?

Think they are converting them to WAV or similar.

By your answer, I take it that the ISO's are not read natively?

RE: Reading ISO's - SACD & DVD-A
I converted my DVD-Audio discs to multi-channel FLACs with this program.

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD-Audio-Explorer

A-400 -> HDMI -> Emotiva UMC-1 -> HDMI -> Samsung UN32EH5000
A-400 -> Component/RCA -> Samsung UN32EH5000 for use with only TV Speakers
D-Link DIR-655, D-Link DGS-1024D Gigabit Switch, QNAP TS-659 Pro II, TS-419P+
C-200 not currently hooked up.

RE: Reading ISO's - SACD & DVD-A
ISO's that are DVD or BD ISO's are read natively. There are many flavours of ISO. It's not ISO that not supported its SACD I think. Not a user of SACD so I'd suggest searching for SACD and seeing what has been said previously.

RE: Reading ISO's - SACD & DVD-A
I use Super Audio CD Decoder input plugin for foobar2000
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sacddecoder/

and DVD-Audio Decoder input plugin and Watermark Detector/Neutralizer DSP plugins for foobar2000
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dvdadecoder/

But there is no support for these formants on PCH.

Back again. I have been looking at SACD ISO's a little closer and am being told that converting the DSDIFF files to PCM/FLAC involves some AQ loss. With Oppo players supporting reading DVD-A ISO's from remote storage, and an official email from their support that they are looking at SACD ISO support, I am interested in knowing whether these will ever be added to PCH?

DSDIFF support will be added in a future version of Music Player Daemon.
It will handle them by converting to Hires PCM (192 kHz/24bits for instance) so quality will be very good.
But it's not native on PCH, it's an user added app:

AFAIK DSD signal has about the same technical capabilities as 24bit 96KHz PCM signal.
And many SACD players convert DSD data to PCM for playback in real time so that one PCM DAC can be used for all audio.

Do you really think that you could spot the difference between real DSD DAC and Hi-Res PCM DAC audio?

I have listened to many SACD discs that are converted to 24bit 88.2KHz and the sound is great! Smile

Well, I am about to find out. I am about to extract DSDIFF from an ISO, convert to FLAC with Audiogate and compare. I have been told that native DSD converted to PCM loses a little something.
