Casgle does not longer work because of deleted Podcast folder
Hi, I have deleted the Podcast folder because I was not interested in the stuff that has been downloaded by default.
Unfortunately the client stores some configuration files there. The first effect was that I was not longer able to start the client. After restarting the box some files have been restored but not all. When I access the client via the pc browser I get following errors Code: Warning: fopen(/share/Podcast/media/Casgle/messageList.xml): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /mnt/syb8634/Casgle/Utils/xml_util.php on line 151I forum member sent me the complete folder (10 files) which I have used to restore the functionality. Using the new files I am able to start the client but I cannot select a new channel (error 44410). I deleted the folder again and restored only the missing three or four files. I also changed in these files the PMPUPID so it is consistent with my existing PMPUPID. Unfortunately I do not know my old user name, so I had to use the one stored in pmpCfg.xml. And guess what... It still doesn't work. I have also deleted the whole Casgle folder on the first partition and reinstalled the NMT apps but the effect was the same. On the first partition everything has been restored, on the data partition six or seven of the ten files have been created (see above). To make it clear: I NO NOT WANT TO REFORMAT THE WHOLE DRIVE when a minor app is not working properly. Is there a way to get rid of the Cascle client, so it is completely reinstalled and reinitialized when I install the NMT apps next time? -- Sorry for the double post but an own thread seems to be better for this... |

RE: Casgle does not longer work because of deleted Podcast folder
Why do folks muck around with stuff they know nothing about?
Casgle responds real fast to questions, maybe start there first before hacking at it with a machete. ND |

RE: Casgle does not longer work because of deleted Podcast folder
Well, when there is a Podcast folder on a data partition that contains stuff I don't really want to have then it is ok to delete the folder. There is no readme "Don't delete the folder" nor a hint in the changelog.
So when something is missing on a data partition a application should be able to restore it. |

Good Luck! |

There is an old saying that I didn't really understand till I started working on computers back in the early 1970's, as I started working with more and more with programmers it became clear what this adage was true.: "Make something foolproof, and only a fool will use it." No amount of programming/warnings/read me files/warning stickers/security locks/sealed cases will deter a determined idiot from mucking things up, and/or killing themselves. I can always pick these folks out in a crowd, they are always blaming everyone else. ND Once again, have you contacted Casgle? |

RE: Casgle does not longer work because of deleted Podcast folder
I always read changelogs (in particular when no other documentation available). But it is never a good idea to store important configuration files on a data partition that is under user control.
I am in contact with a programmer from Casgle and we try to find the problem. |
