sisvel licence
In this message werner says the nmt has the sisvel licence

the company for that is called sisvel and yes popcornhour is paying for that, on ifa there where many companies which where getting problems about missing licenses to talk about bigger ones (Hyundai, MSI,.....)
Thats also an reason why many devices dont come to europe, because of missing licenses.

but HiJack writes today this is not true http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=...le&sid=693 What is the story?

RE: sisvel licence
Hi-jacks always dumping on PCH, look at the recent awards to see the correlation between advertisers on the site and those awarded top marks. The PCH would not out sell all of the other NMT devices if it was bottom of just about every criteria as voted by HiJack.

You read comments such as 'PopCorn among other NMT have failed to cover certain licenses (Sisvel) and now are on watch on imports by customs.' The may be where he lives, but over in the UK where I live and indeed work for customs they are not. Why single out PCH in any case?

HiJack falls squarley in the camp of those that regard media extenders as DVD players etc and therefore liable to 14% import dutues. There are then those who as the unit incorporates ethernet and involves a network believe it falls into the computer parts/networking side and therefore 0% import duties.

Just because HiJack says it, doesnt make it true. Read the post here from a member who has just received a refund on the 14% import duties from TNT in Netherlands:-

I am a moderator on there (although I will admit I spend more time here these days), I think hi-jack has sponsorship with European distributors doesn't he?

Not saying he is completely bias, but he wouldn't be popular if he told everyone to import from China/USA.

RE: sisvel licence
Werner's post is inaccesible and I don't see Syabas on the published sisvel licensees list(s). There is a sysbay on the list but they seem to be a different company. A friend of us was told _today_ in a local shop (netherlands) that the PCH isn't available anymore "because of licensing issues". Man does this s*ck, just when I wanted a 2nd unit for my bedroom...Sad

Posted the quote from Werner.

If I believed everything a man in a local shop told me I would still be thinking we havent been to the moon...we have havent we?

If it was a local AV shop it would probably be one of MPC's partner's being in Holland.

Let's wait for the proper definitive answer before whipping up any hysteria shall we?

RE: sisvel licence
The info i had about Sisvel was wrong, sorry for that guys, the Info what i get was that we have an MP3 license, it was Thomson who holds also mp3 patent, The PCH Ceo is already working with Sivel on an solution (5 weeks now), the solution is right now in final stage, so dont worry about it, there will be PCH Devices in Europe and i also dont see any reason why it shouldnt be in this year anymore.

Regards,
Werner

RE: sisvel licence
I reckon its a marketing ploy to get all the NMT devices currently in Europe sold even quicker.

So in summary then:-

DTS License - Yes
Sisvel license - No, but anytime.

Affected Customer Area - Europe ONLY

Thanks for the update werner, in my original post I didn't even expect any licensing so this is better than expected. You also have to give on to Hi-Jack every once in a while.

RE: sisvel licence
We have the order of A110 and A100 stopped at the customs, right now. We got that information today. The reason - required Sisvel licence.
The situation is critical for us, as we have some devices paid by customers.
We will probably pay license fees for that orders, but now we wait for Sisvel answers, if it would be possible.
So if you have any hot information about pending licensing process - please let me, and us know.
If we will not find a solution, whole order will be send back.
This can happen to each EU PCH reseller now SadSadSad

Why is it that urgent things happen out of hours every time?

We are working on that with Sisvel department in Germany. They will get report from our customs in a few hours. We registered our company in Sisvel so they can officialy talk with us now.
But your help, support, any documents, will help us even more effective too. We hope Sisvel will check status of your licensing proces and will let our order to go through (it is not a big one).

Still waiting in the same point. Shipment still at the customs. Syabas asked us to wait. Sisvel got all the documents last week, but resposnible person is not available since Friday. Maybe tomorrow we will be more succesfull contacting her - than we will know the situation on Sisvel side. And we hope also to get to know if we, as an importer, can pay license fees for held order.
We just got to know how EGreat handles that. They do not have Sisvel license, they started the process, but for current customers and orders, they pay license fees per order, and notify Sisvel with devices' details and importer details, so it can go smooth.
We would suggest Syabas to do same, till main licensing process is pending...

RE: sisvel licence
Sisvel got all the import papers, and checked it. On the commertial invoice, the seller is Popcorn Hour, not Syabas Technologies. On our previous CIs, seller was Syabas. Now somebody changed it, so Sisvel told us - "Popcorn Hour company has no sisvel licensing process pending". We sent them explanations who is who, I hope they accept it, and recheck all again, but EU lawyers are very strict, and exporter data has to fit !!!
So the question is: is there a Popcorn Hour Company (with same address data as Syabas Tech.)? Or somebody does not care what name is placed on CI?
