[A-100] DTS-HD / DD TrueHD working with PS3
Hello,

I'm not sure to put this topic in the right place, but let's give it a try.
I got this PCH A-100 for 9 months now, and i'm very happy of it!

I bought recently a A/V receiver Onkyo 875 which manages DTS-HD & DD TrueHD, but the problem is that the A-100 is only HDMI 1.1 so no HD sound Sad

Yesterday, i played with my PS3 (recently bought too) and i was able to parse NMT folders through UPnP protocole and was also able to play HD movies downloaded on the PCH.

I would like to know if playing a HD movie with HD sound with the PS3 through UPnP would bring the HD sound to my speakers as the info is transition trough the ethernet and not the hmdi 1.1 of the Popcorn?

PS: sorry for my english Blush

Yes, it should work assuming that you have the PS3 hooked up to the amp via HDMI 1.3 though I don't know if it would use uncompressed PCM as it does with Blu-ray or actually pass the audio to the amp for decoding and thus do the actual HD audio codec. What happened when you tried?

Video: Sony KLV-52W400a (HDMI)
BD/DVD: Sony PS3 (HDMI)

Even though the PS3 have HDMI 1.3 it cannot stream TrueHD and DTS HD directly. It can however decode it and send it to your receiver as Multichannel PCM.

No it will be 7.1 PCM not any of the HD audio codecs. Your lights will not light up on your amp.Big Grin

The PS3 is not very good at all for streaming formats be it video or audio. Read the PS3 v NMT thread as I'm pretty sure its mentioned in there.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

Still sounds awesome though, waaayyyy better than standard audio. I'd love to compare to a bitstream of HD audio though, haven't done that yet

RE: [A-100] DTS-HD / DD TrueHD working with PS3
If the sound is different between Dolby TrueHD and the decoded PCM audio, the decoder i broken, it's that simple (after off course any level differences has been taken info account).

Both Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master audio are lossless compression methods, so the decoded audio is bit-for-bit identical to the original pcm master. One could see then as zip archives optimized for audio.

So the short answer is yes, the PCM audio from the PS3 is just as much HD audio as the original compressed TrueHD/HD Master Audio track. As chris57 so nicely puts it, the difference is, that your receiver will type Multichannel PCM instead of TrueHD.
