RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
Hi Chris,

Thanks for putting that guide on. I followed the same procedure on the purchase of mine last week but it would continually state "Do not have permission etc" with UAC off.

Did you not experience that at all?

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
No nothing at all and I went through it on two Vista PC's one x64 and the other x86 to check it worked on both versions, but I do have UAC turned off, along with the security nag and about having it turned off.

Have you tried it with UAC OFF?

Do you have Vista Ultimate?

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
Yeah tried it with UAC off as above.

I have Vista Professional. Its not such a big deal now as have also purchased an additional external hard drive. Was just very annoying when putting the original library on. The drive is mapped correctly as I can drag and drop from my desktop Video Folder to the Z: via ethernet...just wont do it via USB.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
Excellent guide

Can I also use this guide to transfer files between USB 2.0 host on PC and USB 2.0 host on nmt.
What is the difference between usb slave and usb host.

Why do I have to use usb slave port?

I'm waiting for my hdx 1000 to arrive, is the usb file transfer the quickest way to transfer files? I have arround 1TB of movies on my PC HDD.

Thank you.
Kind regards.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
The A100 only has USB host ports and you cannot connect directly to a PC via USB and transfer files.

Along with DTS stereo USB slave was introduced in the A110. Not sure but HDX may well have had USB slave from the get go.

You need USB slave to connect and you will be able to do this with your HDX1000.

Quickest transfer methods are:-

1. Removing the HDD after formattting in your HDX and placing it in your PC with ext drivers. See here
2. USB slave
3. FTP
4. SMB

Also, would I be able than to install hdd back to hdx 1000 without any issues, will all nmt application stay on hdd...

Thank you.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
Vista users reported problems with ext2ifs so I used ext2fsd and had no problems myself on either vista install.

Remember from the guide you are only giving the storage partition of the internal HDD a drive letter. Therefore you are leaving the NMT apps and swop partition alone and unaffected.

The HDX1000 has a USB slave port. You dont actually physically remove the HDD just link via USB slave port to your PC.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
UAC is Vista only, if you dont have Vista then dont worry about it.

What do you mean browse the network, there;s nothing network about this guide. Do you mean that you try to open your browser and access the drive letter that you have given the drive?

Try first rebooting the PC whilst still connected via USB with the NMT. Then try again to access.

If that doesnt work then try right-clicking on the drive and properties. Then securtiy and see if read/write is checked and everyone can access the drive.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
Hi, first post so hope you can help? I've read the previous posts and followed all the steps but I still can't get my Pc to detect my slave drive. I did manage to get it to work on one occasion but nothing since then. Is there any other software that I could try? I'm using Win XP. I also tried it on my Vista laptop but still nothing? Thanks

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
You have to have an internal HDD that has been formatted by the NMT to ext. If you have an internal HDD that is NTFS then its a no go. You dont tell us how your internal HDD is formatted etc.

Sorry about the lack of information, my internal HDD has been formatted to ext3, using the wizard software that came with the PCH and I downloaded the file in the wiki Ext2IFS_1_11a

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
Ext2IFS_1_11a worked fine for me and I'm using Vista x64 SP1 (drive formatted as ext3). I'm copying files to my PH-A110 as I write this.
