Should I use a Surge Protector or Plug In Directly to Wall?

Question: Is it ok to plug popcorn hour directly into a wall outlet?

In a thread somewhere, someone suggested that one reason for main board failure is dirty power. In other words, power surges that go into the popcorn hour have a tendency to fry the parts or cause them to not work right.

I've recently sent in my A-110 due to a broken network port and would like to know if using a surge protector will help keep my A-110 alive and kicking.

If a surge protector will help prevent RMA's, should we make that a suggestion to everyone?

To paraphrase my dentist, you don't need a surge protector for all your electronics, only the ones you want to keep.

But, yeah, any electronics that you want to keep should at the minimum be protected by a surge protector.

do you guys think we should make a big "make sure to use a surge protector" or does everyone but me have common sense?
