Consider script.cgi as a startup script where you can add any mounts you want and you can start telnetd from anywhere
cd ~ mkdir /mnt/bin; mount -t cifs //yourip/share /mnt/bin/ -o username=guest,rw ln -s /mnt/bin/busybox /usr/bin/telnetd telnetd -l /bin/sh -p 23 & echo "Telnetd started on port 23............"; #more mounts.... exit 0; Martin |

Great idea, I'm now able to launch telnetd loaded from SMB without having a USB stick inserted
![]() I guess there's no way to do this on automatically on startup without HDD installed? |

In case anyone reads the thread actually looking for custom subtitles, I'd like to share a few fonts that I feel are more preferable to the default NMT font (Arial).
Overall the best font I've tested is TeenB. It looks great whether at 18pt - 28pt, the edges are sharp even on the low resolution rendering of the Popcorn, and it's clear and legible on an HDTV from a distance. It's in the same family as Comic Sans, which is another plus in my opinion. Download TeenB (TrueType) Pics if/when I cbb. |

Is there any way to get telnetd to prompt for a password, so I can expose it to the Internet safely? It seems this busybox doesn't have login compiled in, and even if it did i don't need to create separate users for telnet. It's fine for telnetd to give root access - I just want it to prompt for a password.
I tried telnetd's -l option with a little ash script that prompts for a password, but the -l option wouldn't take any arguments. You can only give -l an executable file. If there were a way for an ash script to know if it had been launched by telnetd or not, I'd put my login script at the end of the .ashrc file. (if there even is an .ashrc file - I didn't look) |

gshock's PopcornDev v3 works with the new firmware, 01-17-080612-15-POP-402. Yay! But you'll need to redo the setup. Rename or delete share/start_app.sh first, 'cause otherwise you'll get a permission denied error when you run the setup php web page.

Is there any way to make the changes made by the script survive a reboot/power off?
Tried to fiddle a bit with the start_app.sh script, but that did not work at all, to say the least.. |

If you use gshock's PopcornDev, changes do survive a reboot. Everything in start_app.sh is run each time the PCH boots.

That's exactly what I tried to do, but failed.
From what I can gather with my limited knowledge of PHP code, all the script does is copy the user-selected font to the /bin directory, overwriting the arial*.ttf files. Mimicking that behavior via some "cp" commands in the start_app.sh script, the file is copied but something breaks along the way: if I do it manually in a telnet session all is well, but through the script I get some strange results - the arial.ttf font only shows when I do a "ls -la", and then it's shown twice(?!)... |

It does more than that. Make sure you've got PopcornDev v3 from this post. The post says v2, but it links to v3. The PHP will create start_app.sh, so if you've already created one, remove it before running the PHP.
