Interresting indeed.
This souns like a prime candidate for the new packinging format.
We can create a crontab item which check periodically for ntfs volumes and remount them as ntfs-3g.

I'll whip something up, could you take it over from there lundman?

load the "fuse.ko", only needed once per boot, but it's not like it would break to try to load it everytime.

Then you need "fusermount" on path, and "ntfs-3g".

As for how to use it, either it is a one-shot wonder, and it simply re-mounts anything with "ntfs" with "ntfs-3g" and you have to run the "install" everytime you plug in a device. (ick?)

Or I write a little program that checks for ntfs volumes appearing and remounting.

I would also recommend a little program listening for remote control "eject" button, and remount as "ntfs". (or possible, toggle, I wonder if I can use OSD to display a message).
