mediatomb UPnP server
After some relentless efforts to recompile mediatomb for the Networked Media Tank, i've found the pre-compiled static binairies just beeing hosted on their site.
For those wondering why i would replace the default upnp server with this one, is ofcourse customization and great UPnP device support (such as PS3). You can just download the pre-compiled binairies from: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mediato...2el.tar.gz ![]() Cheer, Tony |

RE: mediatomb UPnP server
You have made my day
![]() Got mediatomb up and running on the HDX-1000. Now I can stream .flac to my Denon! Was not possible with the supplied NMT-UPnP. My knowledge of the NMT is still poor, i've got it only a few days. Maybe you can help me with some hints to get this perfect? I start the program now in a telnet session: ./mediatomb.sh& - Can I add the mediatomb application in the "NMT application" list? (the list where we can stop/start e.g FTP, NFS etc? - Or do I need to make some kind of webpage to start/stop mediatomb. Are there webpage examples to get started from? - What is the directory where programs are normally placed. I've placed mediatomb now onder 'share'. Maybe not the nicest place.. Thanks for your time, cheers, (groeten uit Belgie ![]() Eddy |

Would you be willing to list the steps you took to make this happen? I've got telnetd successfully installed, but am stuck on how to use it to install mediatomb. Thanks! |

RE: mediatomb UPnP server
Hi dvan,
Not so difficult to do: - Check that you can setup a telnet session from your pc to your mnt. If you use windows, you have to install a telnet application. But winxp has this included I think (in a dosbox) do telnet <ip of your mnt> example: telnet 192.168.2.2 after the promt type ls to see if you get a response type exit to stop - Check if FTP is working You can do FTP in a dosbox. do FTP <ip of your mnt> comes back with user fill in ftpuser next pasword 1234 do dir or ls to check. type quit to stop but simplest is to use a ftp program on a pc * Get the file mentioned by edgecrush3r and unzip it on your pc * telnet to your box, type pwd , an do cd <directory> until you are in the share dir. * in the share dir i've made a directory 'applications' I think there are better places to put programs, but for now it works.. type mkdir applications and do a cd to applications , mkdir mediatomb cd mediatomb leave telnet open for now * FTP the unzipped mediatomb files including subdirs to your new directory mediatomb * with telnet do ls to see if files are there * in telnet type chmod 777 mediatomb.sh * cd usr/bin and do chmod 777 mediatomb this is to make files executable * go back to your mediatomb dir with cd ../.. * start the program ./mediatomb.sh& you should see some text and after that telnet prompt -> type exit to stop telnet session mediatomb is running so long you do not plugout the mnt, to start after powerdown: ./mediatomb.sh There is a way to start programs at nmt boot, but don't now yet how to do it. webinterface to mediatomb : http://192.168.2.2:49152/ replace with your mnt-ip:49152 Hope this helps? RE: mediatomb UPnP server
that did it, thanks for the instructions Eddy. did it take forever for mediatomb to create your database? mine has been chugging all night and it's still not done. maybe this is because of the limited processor in NMT device?

RE: mediatomb UPnP server
At the moment I have only 200 songs to index. It took a minute I think.
And it slows down the more entries you have in the database I understand. How many songs need indexing? |

RE: mediatomb UPnP server
oh, i have tons so I'm guessing that it's just too many. i also turned off the bittorrent application, which seemed to help speed things up.
Also: this is a bit more advanced than my knowledge, but some of the discussion in this thread: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...ht=telnetd may help you in getting mediatomb to start automatically. it seems that the telnetd program starts based off a start_app.sh file, that maybe you could edit to get it to call mediatomb as well? |

You must have telnetd already installed... To auto-start mediatomb add: Quote:cd /opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/HARD_DISK/Apps/mediatomb/ && ./mediatomb.sh& Change "Apps" to the name of the directory you created. I just happen to put mediatomb into "Apps" directory. I also suggest adding the line under the telnet instruction in start_app.sh file. When I put it above the telnet instruction, mediatomb started and ran ok, but telnet stopped working. After I moved the mediatomb line below the telnet instruction, then both were running ok. |

[A110] MediaTomb with Denon 3808
Hi all,
Has anyone had any success streaming flac files to their 3808 from MediaTomb on the PCH ? I use many different dlna/upnp servers (mostly fuppes) and all work ok, except for MediaTomb on the PCH. When streaming from MediaTomb I always get "File Format Error" on the 3808. This is with the same files that stream fine as flac from fuppes with transcoding disabled (show up as PCM on the 3808). Anyone have this combination working? Did you need to make some configuration changes? Cheers. Sorry for cross posting this to here, but my other thread was receiving no attention in the standard PHC 110 Hardware area (bad place to post in the first place )

RE: [A110] MediaTomb with Denon 3808
Hi,
What is working for me is mediatomb running on hdx-1000, and the Denon A1 as a control point. But I cannot use another control point for flac. e.g. a PC with Kinsky. Mediatomb is default transcoding flac-> pcm, you can remove this line from the config file. I have also added: Code: <magic-file>usr/share/file/magic</magic-file>Code: <filesystem-charset>ISO-8859-1</filesystem-charset>Code: <metadata-charset>ISO-8859-1</metadata-charset>editor is eating text last line starts metadata-charsetremark: Denon is picky about .flac, check with mp3tag the tags. And picture in the tagfield must be smaller than 1Meg, else you get a 'communication error'. Best to remove all non flac files from the dirs, except jpegs. |

Not sure whether it is related to your issue ---------------------------------------------------- (from http://mediatomb.cc/pages/devices) Sony * Playstation 3 Firmware 1.80 introduces UPnP/DLNA support, add the following to the <server> section of your configuration file to enable MediaTomb PS3 compatibility: <protocolInfo extend="yes"/> Additionally, the PS3 expects that avi files are serverd with the mime type of video/divx, so add the following to the <extensoin-mimetype> section in your configuration file: <map from="avi" to="video/divx"/> ------------------------------------------------------- Hope it helps you. If it works, please do post. Additionally was wondering whether this media server on NMT shows all of the harddisk or contents from a particular directory. |
