Updating Protocol

I understand some updates in RED indicate you have to have that firmware before being able to use anything else. Question: Why do they have multiple other updates after those stepping stones? Doesn't the latest and greatest have all the prior updates to that point, or do you have to do every update that is released in chronological order? If not, then why have other dates? There would really only be one update theoretically after a red stepping stone until that update then becomes the next stepping stone to the latest update...which would then at some point become another stepping stone...etc, etc, etc, etc. It's just somewhat confusing I guess.

It is common for all firmware updates to be listed on a Company website, particlurily when dealing with a new product that is launched with shall we say a less than ideal firmware.

Nowadays every NMT that is shipped has the stepstone update and an even newer firmware. You only have to update to the latest.

There is only ever going to be the one stepstone update. The reason why it is a stepstone update and only likely for there ever to be one is that it introduced a failsafe so that it is impossible to brick your unit via a firmware update.
