Beta Change Log Thread
Just wonering why the Beta Changelog thread hasn't been updated in 1 1/2 months....I think people really appreciate being able to see what is coming down the line.

RE: Beta Change Log Thread
The beta team are busy testing a possible RC for release very soon. It's a bug fix rather than introducing any new features. A release for both the A100 and A110 so that's why there's been no beta.

RE: Beta Change Log Thread
I think what the UJB wants to know (as many do) is "what is next"? I love the upcoming Web Radio feature and with it and Flash Hours I use my PCH more than ever, but there is really nothing else exciting on the horizon. Q1 2009 is almost over and all we really have seen is one release, with bug fixes, being slowly distributed to the PCH platform models, and even slower to the NMT partners, Syabas probably can't afford another quarter like that. The A100 is already out of production, and certainly no announcements of any other new major features upcoming, I think we need to start considering that this is the end of major development.

RE: Beta Change Log Thread
I would think that Syabas would love another quarter like the quarter they've just experienced, judged on the popularity/sales of the PCH and the NMT platform.
I'm sure we know that the next generation player is being worked on, as well as the next beta for the future. The bug fixes are easy and quick releases.
There has been one full firmware release and this RC if released will make 2 bug fix releases. The next firmware is only beta1 so as soon as the bug fix is out of the way then the next beta needs to be cracked on with. That should be possible with the A110 bug fix already in RC now aswell.

From beta1 we know that idx/sub should come through and internet radio has been added to the RC bug fix for early release. I would expect a couple of other new features for the next firmware by the time we have gone through beta and RC testing.

RE: Beta Change Log Thread
If the bug fixes are "quick and easy" why are they dated the beginning of Feb. and it is going on April? But that's really irrelevant, and frankly it's difficult to take your comments seriously since you first explained the reason for no beta was these fixes. I agree with you that there probably are other priorities than firmware updates but that is what I am getting at, I think the days of really major changes are numbered. The IDX/SUB are noted but I think you are one hand leading people to expect much more, and yet on the other hand when you moderate posts of "issues", you tell everyone how complete the product is, I'm surprised that you still expect big things.

My opinion is the product is pretty stable as it is (lack of firmware is not a critique) but there are not too many more quick fixes or tweaks, but the current products needs a complete overhaul if they want to make it great. I can't see that being an easy development decision. I certainly don't want to see changes that break things that work as has been happening.

RE: Beta Change Log Thread
I think the PCH really NEEDS a fix only firmware release. I was very happy to see this thread.

As can be seen from the discussion here (and as I have seen personally) there are a TON of bugs to be addressed and a lot of us will feel a lot better after a good release squashes most of them.

I am 100% fine waiting another 4-6 months for new features if the bugs go away!!

RE: Beta Change Log Thread
A Bug Fix is quick and easy in comparison to a full firmware release.

You know this as part of the beta team. A full firmware release goes through beta1, beta2, beta3, etc, then RC1, RC2, etc before a stable release. A Bug fix generally comes straight to RC and so far there has not been any need for even an RC2. That is how they are quick and easy.

It was dated February so as not to confuse the beta1 firmware release dates, explained in the beta forum thread. Which obviously is not working as its misled you.

My opinion of the product is that it is pretty stable. That is exactly the same as yours, your exact wording. So to earlier in your post slate me as someone who says that the product is complete is hypocritical.

If you are expecting massive changes now such as an abandonment of gaya or mono or something else then no I cant see that happening anytime soon. But that doesnt mean that they cannot make a product that we both agree is pretty stable becoming rock solid stable.
As an aside shall I start posting Bug Fix release notes in the Beta changelog thread.

Remember please that I fought to get a beta changelog thread. It was not wanted due to the debacle that happened previously whenever they were posted.

RE: Beta Change Log Thread
Would BugZilla would be out of the question? :-) It would be swwwwweet to have a running tab of all bugs (and their status in development), ability to vote on the most annoying flaws (to have them squashed in order of actual importance to users), an organized way of tracking (realistic) feature requests...

Failing that, forums are good too. ;-)

I would definitely be in favour of something like this if it beneficial to the dev team.

RE: Beta Change Log Thread
Been asked before and will not happen im afraid. Syabas are very guarded about their future plans and will not publish them or have a system that shows then or bug fixes etc.
