Compatible external HDDs?

Hi,

I just pre-ordered Popcorn Hour. I plan to use an external hard drive to stream HD content rather than networked computer. I haven't yet bought the external drive. I need some help to narrow down my choices.

I understand that as per NMT documentation, any USB external Hard Drive will do just fine. However, in the forum, some people have shared that they had difficulties with MKV content while streaming through Western Digital external hard drives. I therefore would like your recommendations for external hard disks that are fully compatible.

I will prefer the plug-n-play ones that don't require separate power source. Also will it be a better idea to use a (HDD + External Casing) setup rather than a dedicated external HDD?

not so much compatible external HDDs. I have a few 300g Seagates. They work great in Laser brand USB enclosures but not in a cheaper Isun brand. This is with PCH with no internal HDD. I have had no probs at all with PCH with this Laser/Seagate set up. 1080p mkv play perfect in a 27 deg C room with PCH straight outta the box with late Jan08 f/w.

With a PCH with int HDD the Isun USB case cause probs like not starting up in HDMI mode but goes component. Or if you plug the Isun case in while PCH is on the PCH closes down in a few mins. No probs here with Laser case and Seagate HDD.
