Hardware that can play live RTSP streams
Hi all,

I BADLY need any inputs about any hardware that could play live RTSP streams. I have found popcornhour, I am user ID 1622 and I never received an email to order my NMT.

No, it's not in my junk mail Tongue

I am willing to buy any hardware that could do that, please help me!

If it's that urgent, just setup a simple machine (for instance a mini-ITX VIA chipset-based, or the basic Mac mini, an Asus eeePc etc) and install VLC on it.

Audio, video, disco - I hear, I see, I learn.

Thanks DC!

I already have that kind of setup, I need a better output than a computer video card. I am using a Geforce 7600GS which output to svideo and it's not good enough.

I am sure that PH RCA output would be better..!

fred99,

You might want to send an email to sales@popcornhour.com if you missed
your preorder ID.

But from what I heard, they will be clearing up all the backorders soon and goes back to normal ordering.

Yes, NMT undocumented feature, it does support RTSP using the URL as you mentioned.

However, we've only tested working well from Windows Media Server,
but may not work well with other "flavors" of RTSP out there.

It may not be the rtsp that is your issue:
Are you 100% sure the container/transport stream and A/V codecs are supported by the A-100?

It would be easier for you to get a resolve or answer if you described the exact brand, model.

Thanks -- the camera is trendnet TV-IP312W.

It does NOT use Java in rtsp but it does use it in http, so that is not the problem.

In rtsp it uses mpeg4 as video codec. i dont know what the container is.

do you need any other info?

this would be very useful functionality for me. thanks again

According to VLC's "stream and media info":

URI: rtsp://192.168.1.100/mpeg4

Stream 0
Codec: mp4v
Language:
Type: Video

Steam 1
Codec: ulaw
Language:
Type: Audio
Channels: 1
Sample rate: 8000 Hz

mp4v? Could be a "raw" mp4 stream, eg not inside the mp4 container.
Not sure if it works or not with the PH, but I think so. Would be interesting to know for sure!

However, the uLaw audio codec is not supported. It's some form of compressed wav, telephony standard IIRC.

Sorry, I can't get you any further.
Meanwhile: a workaround is to transcode from VLC to the PH.

thanks for your comments.

I disabled the audio stream from the web cam (via its settings) so that there is only one video stream now. I also checked on the fourcc page (http://www.fourcc.org/codecs.php) for the description of mp4v and they say:

MPEG-4 Video. LEAD's MCMP codec also supports this format.

so it's the same as mpeg4 which is supported.

so i wonder if the PCH firmware just needs to be tweaked to treat mp4v just as mpeg4 so that the stream can play. any ideas? thanks
