NFS or SMB?
Hello anyone
I can use both protocols to my NAS box. What is the fastest and stable protocol of these two? (I think I remember that currently SMB i prefered?) I running with newest firmware. |

RE: NFS or SMB?
If your using lower bitrate files, it probably makes no difference.
Some here, say NFS is faster. I personally find SMB to be faster. I think a lot of this also has to do with the processor power of the device sourcing the files. ie. I'll bet a quad core (probably even a dual core or less) can source the files faster then most of the home network NAS type devices. That's with both having 1 Gbps nics. Where you have the option for both. Try both. |

RE: NFS or SMB?
Hi,
I used NFS since 1 year, but with the last firmwares, I think SMB is much faster. With NFS I have problems with high bitrates >30/35MBit/s, with Samba this files are working smooth (performance of the Dual-Core Linux Server is in Windows XP approx. 50-60MByte/s copyperformance). So I think NFS was the better system at the beginning of A100, but at the moment SMB ist the way to go (and myihome is also good). RE: NFS or SMB?
SMB is the fastest.
SMB gets to 38mb/s whereas NFS only gets to 33mb/s:- http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/i...erformance If you have powerplugs or WiFi you may find that NFS does not give the problems that SMB may but that it to do with the way it transfers rather than speed.
