Difference between 8634 and 8635 based devices
I was under the impression that the difference was that the 8634 had Macrovision support while the 8635 had not. What exactly does that mean for a device?
I am testing a Mediabox MB-801S which uses the 8634 chipset and wonder what the difference really is comapred to my Popcorn Hour. /B |

Macrovision allows decryption of CSS(DVD)/BD+(BluRay, not on media servers) which allows playback of retail DVD's. AFAIK that's about it. Thanks. That is what I thought. But does that imply that a 8634 device should be able to play commercial DVD's from a connected USB DVD-drive?
That was what i was thinking but so far I haven't had any luck with that on my device. The DVD-drive shows up under sources but when trying to play a DVD the screen just goes blank .. /B |

It is possible some SMP8634 devices do not have Macrovision code. Sharp Aquos (46D64U) PCH A-100 Buffalo Link Theater Sony STR-DG720 |

I don't think the css and macrovision is implemented yet.
They (syabas) have problem with it, but it will be there as soon as the problems are solved. It's the same for all the 8634 devices right now ( Dune... etc ). |

I'm testing the MediaBox MB-801S which has the 8634 chipset. A very nice little player that certainly compares well to the Popcorn Hour.
But that explains it re: why I couldn't get the DVD's to play./B |
