copy file from old hd to new bigger drive
How can I copy some of the content of what I have on my old hd to the new drive? I've tried to put the old drive on the usb case but NMT does not seem to be able to detect it. What is the best way to handle this copy? TIA.

Please edit thread title to reflect the model you have, the subforums are archive and will eventually be closed. In future please post in the section as opposed to subsection, thanks.
Where was the old HDD? Did it have the NMT Apps instaled on it? Have you installed the new HDD yet? Have you installed the NMT Apps on it? RE: copy file from old hd to new bigger drive
I have the same question, so i'll use this topic!
I have a PCH 110 with a 150gb harddisk installed in it. On the 150gb disk, the apps are installed an a lot of movies. No i want to buy a 1tb drive. Is it possible to copy the content of the small drive on to the large one, so i don't lose my settings? |

RE: copy file from old hd to new bigger drive
Move and content from the old 150Gb HDD via your PC to a different location. Then install the 1Tb HDD and connect via USB slave to your PC. Then transfer the content back.
If you want to keep your User Apps etc then the CSI has the ability to create a backup of them and then reinstall. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

RE: copy file from old hd to new bigger drive
A slightly different approach which will preserve (I'm almost certain) your apps and settings as well is the following.
If you have a Linux pc, use that, otherwise simply get yourself a Linux LiveCD (e.g., Ubuntu, Knoppix will do nicely). Make the 150GB disk available to your pc, i.e. put it in a USB enclosure or simply install it as a secondary drive. Make sure you have ample storage space to copy the 150GB, or optionally install the new disk similarly. Also make sure that you have formatted the new drive from the NMT menu (you'll have to install it obviously). Now start up Linux and open up a command prompt. Let's assume that the old drive's apps&settings partition is mounted as /mnt/old and that you want to copy the content over to /mnt/new if you have mounted the new drive there. You can use any other existing location as you please. Enter the following command: Code: rsync -var --delete /mnt/old /mnt/newThat will copy over the settings and apps. Do the same for the other data partition(s) on the old drive, that will copy over the existing media content. Should you run into a situation where rsync is not installed, eitehr install it, or there's an alternative approach usiing dd, however that will create partitions exactly as large as the old ones, so you would need to increase partitions afterwards, which is not preferrable. |

RE: copy file from old hd to new bigger drive
Hmz, I think i'll go for the simple way. I'm a noob in all this, and I have the PCH now for 5 day.
There arn't any apps installed, just the ones from PCH. Only need to set the settings for NZBget. So i'll copy the movies from my old drive to my pc, install the new drive into the PCH and then copy the movies back to that drive. Thnx for the reply's! |
