Anyway to play retail dvds on nmt?
I don't care if i have to buy a usb dvd player that has retail dvd playback i just want it connected to the media player to upscale and navigate.
What about an xbox 360 hddvd drive that must have retail dvd license?

RE: Anyway to play retail dvds on nmt?
No it doesn't and it is not DVD/HD-DVD drives that have the licences it is the player and its chip/OS that needs to have it.

You can rip your DVD on your PC to an ISO or video_ts folder and play that as if you have actually inserted a disc. You could get a USB pendrive and use that if you are not networked.

You can mess about with libdvdread and get them to play but it's not official and involves some reading and work. Search forum for libdvdread, it is part of the CSI.

Yes, the CSI contains two possible solutions.

Audio, video, disco - I hear, I see, I learn.

I believe you can also have anyDVD running on your PC, share your PC DVD drive on a network and play on the PCH from there.

The streaming option is no good and the pc dvd rom option is also no good.
I guess it can't be done yet, i thought someone would have created an app for it.
Need an option for someone with no pc.

Are there any nmt apps that will rip a dvd to the internal HDD? That would be fine.

RE: Anyway to play retail dvds on nmt?
The app is called LDVD.
I have tried it and concluded it I does not work well.
The author has warned about the performance issues and further optimisations are required.
The main issue is the resources required to process the CSS (copy protection).

The play stops and stutters every few seconds making it impossible to watch a DVD.

The SIGMA chip is capable of decrypting and playing DVD's on the fly.
This was proved by the DUNE HD Ultra (NMT based H/W) running non Syabas firmware called RusHD. I did try that and it worked well but you do lose some of the functionality of the NMT platform.

RE: Anyway to play retail dvds on nmt?
Don't need any of the nmt aps, i don't even use them on my one.
Will the RUSHD work on egreat m31b or m34a?
In the firmware notes it says
# [MODE], [3]: to enable HDMI, 480i 60Hz.
# [MODE], [4]: to enable HDMI, 720p 60Hz.
# [MODE], [5]: to enable HDMI, 1080i 60Hz.
Does that mean no 1080p/24?

I can't find anything on LDVD on google, what's the link to the main site?

RE: Anyway to play retail dvds on nmt?
Stop.

Just because someone pops in and says that on a totally different manufacturers player that is NOT an NMT you may be able to run an unofficial firmware that enables DVD playback on the chip that the NMT uses do not go tearing off thinking that you can install that firmware and get it to work. You are more likely to break your player than anything else.

The APP is part of the CSI. the CSI is here:-
http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...?tid=13161
but it uses FTP to connect and install UserApps.

UserApps are installed in the same partition as the NMT Apps and some UserApps require the NMT Apps in any case. If you are insistent on NOT installing the NMT Apps anywhere or streaming then you have no chance of even trying to get libdvdread to work IMO, where are you going to install it?

Here is lundman's site which is where libdvdread initially came from, you will see that llink has it, again though that's useless as its streaming and you do not want that:-

RE: Anyway to play retail dvds on nmt?
I second that, regarding unofficial firmwares.

Every now and then I read a thread called something like, "Have I bricked my NMT?", and the answer turns-out to be, "yes". You might very well get our sympathy, but you won't get support of any other kind.

RE: Anyway to play retail dvds on nmt?
I'm not insistent on not installing apps i just meant i didn't care if i had to exchange them for dvd playback, As dvd playback is the priority.
I see what you mean by libdvdread, i now see libdvdread equals LDVD in CSI.
However it didn't work, it won't get passed the warning screens unless i press menu on the remote and select title. Then i tried to play the movie and i hear distorted sound i see my amp switching from pII to doly digital repeatedly and the screen looks distorted.
Were there any commands i needed to add to usage instructions or any files to the nmt? I have installed it using csi and that's it.
Where are the instructions for LDVD?

This may be a stupid question but whats wrong with just getting a dvd player? I don't see what advantage you gain trying to go thru a pch.

RE: Anyway to play retail dvds on nmt?
If one already has a USB DVD disc drive, it would seem unnecessary to get another standalone player. But I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons too, for better and worse.

mokn; I don't think there are plenty of instructions for ldvd. The developer lundman is err... not really into developing extensive guides ;-)
I've never used it myself, but I would assume there is a README or some notes among the files in the package. Note that I also think you can also install the llink-nmt package to play DVD discs, perhaps it's easier to start with.

He doesn't stream though, if he did the like you say llink has libdvdread as linked above.

RE: Anyway to play retail dvds on nmt?
You can use llink-nmt straight on the NMT, so it would only stream to itself, so to speak. No network involved.
