I can't get online, or play a file for more than a few min
Hi all,
I am very new to PCH, and i don't understand many of the abbreviations i have seen around here. I will look em up, but if it's obscure please just say it ![]() I have spent the evening on this forum looking around for info on my problems. But either i am not looking in the right place, and am a noob. or no one has actually made a post like this one before. ok here is what i have going on. I'm going to give a lil more info rather than less. Then nothing will be overlooked hopefully. In my PCH I put in a brand new IDE 750 gig seagate hdd, I have not formated it btw, as i understand the PCH will do that anyways when i go to use it as a NFS. Is that the correct way to do this by the way? I took a regular network cable and plugged it directly into the pc i want this device to communicate with. I have installed Mihome (tried versions 4.7 and 4.9) on my pc, and directed each media type to the directory i keep them in. I can view files, and i can even play them. but the problem is this. after what seems a random period of time, it stops playing. it then kicks back out to the directory that the movie is located in. the error reads as "could not play file". So then I tried this with a few more movies. Same problem. they are xvid's and I have also played them in their entirety on my pc. They seem to be playing with no problems on the PCH either until the kick. So then my next test. music. I just chose a mp3 album i wanted to play, and hit the play button. it plays the songs just fine, but again it kicks out, and moves on to the next song. I have not updated the firmware yet, and I cannot for the life of me figure out a way to make this thing connect to the internet. My PC connects to the net via Wifi... so is there a trick I am missing out on? Any help would be very much appreciated! thank you!eph |

Hi and welcome,
You will find this forum hopefully friendly and we are willing to help everyone no matter what theyre level of ability. Remember there are no stupid questions only stupid answers! Can you give a bit more detail of your setup. If you are having problems with more than one file type then its more likely to be network or myihome based. Change back to myihome v4.7 whilst you are sorting this out as v4.9 can cause playback problems after pausing. The PCH will format your new HD for you. Go to setup and select the NMT setup wizard and then follow the instructions. Its a large drive so expect around 2 hours to format it. Then it will give you NAS abilties to the PCH (not NFS thats a Unix file transfer system). Firmware can be updated via USB:- http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/i...are_Update Once you have done that you can move on to your particular setup and how to setup your PCH. Check this thread as ive just posted a few links on how to setup static ip's etc.:- http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=2726 Do you have a router or are you using a crossover cable its not entirely clear from your post? Have a good read of the wiki as there are some answers to things youve asked there:- http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/i.../Main_Page A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

First of thank you for the welcome , and the usefull links
![]() I am using myihome 4.7 I think you are right. if I put a file on my usb stick it plays to completion just fine. It's something to do with my network. I have windows vista ultimate 32bit. My internet setup is this: I have Wifi, and I connect to a router upstairs. I can't run a cable to the router, but I would rather have the hard line run right into my pc anyways. Which is also down here. So my pc connects to the wireless network for internet, and I have the PCH wired in to my network card. on the back. For some reason Ahh ok S o ido need to use a cross wire if i want to connect directly to my pc! thansk you! i wasn't sure on what i needed. I will setup my spare router to get it connected to my pc then. ![]() On another new problem I have found... One thing I noticed was that my ip seems to be changing every minute or so. Is that normal? How can i connect to it if it's going to change so often? Or is this where a static ip comes in? I got my drive formated, and I got the apps installed. I can browse my pc and look at my movies, but when I play em it kicks out. (after a minute or so...) On another note. I tried to connect to PCH via ftp, here is the error i get now: [L] Connecting to 169.254.177.128 -> IP=169.254.177.128 PORT=21 [L] Connected to 169.254.177.128 [L] 220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd ---------- [L] 220-You are user number 1 of 10 allowed. [L] 220-Local time is now 00:07. Server port: 21. [L] 220 You will be disconnected after 1440 minutes of inactivity. [L] USER ftpuser [L] 331 User ftpuser OK. Password required [L] PASS (hidden) [L] 530 Login authentication failed I used ftp://ftpuser:ftpuser@"my ip it said in network":21 then the ip changed, but the login never get further if i try again anyways. any more help would be very much appreciated! I'm off to bed now though been working on this again all night.

They changed the setup so that all the passwords on the box are controlled in one place instead of separate. They also changed the default password to 1234. So use that instead of ftpuser and you should be fine.
