Music Jukebox - Network Share issue? Can't play music!
Hi All,

I had my PCH-A110 all set up nicely with Music Jukebox 6.5 and everything worked correctly - including shuffle, playlists etc etc. I was a happy bunny.

I then had a hardware issue with my PCH which was fixed under warranty, and the motherboard was replaced. When I got it back it had different firmware and naturally I had lost all the settings. I had written them all down before sending off my PCH for repair, but alas, I now have a problem with playing music via the Music Jukebox menus, presumably a network share issue?

All the HTML/XML/NFO files produced by the Music Jukebox (which used to work) remained intact on my internal HDD, and the music was all stored on my computer in any case, so all I needed to do in theory was set up my network share again on the PCH and everything should work as it did before.

* I have set up a network share called "DOM-PC-MUSIC" on the PCH
* the URL is (something like) "smb:\\DOM-PC\Music"
* the music on the PC is accessible and playable by browsing to this location from the PCH
* the Music Jukebox HTML pages (located on the PCH internal HDD) can be displayed along with the folder art (which is stored along with the music on my computer at the URL above) so the URL to the folder art in the HTML menu pages must be ok
* The playlists created using Music Jukebox work, so the path names to the music files must be ok in the jsp files

BUT WHEN I PRESS "PLAY" on the HTML menu page for any music file, I just get an error. This seems to imply that the path to the music file is incorrect. I assume the path comes from the XML file for the album. If I compare the file path in the XML file to that in the playlist jsp files, the path is the same (of course they are because it all worked in the past!).

So does anyone have any suggestions what else I can check? The thing that confuses me is that the playlists from the Music Jukebox work fine, yet trying to play a file from an album HTML page doesn't work - even though the paths are the same in both the jsp and the xml files.

Help Sad

First, triple-check the network share name that appears on the Sources screen of the Popcorn Hour. Be 150% sure it says 'DOM-PC-MUSIC' (exact case). Compare this to what comes after the 'NETWORK_SHARE/' in one of the XML files. They have to match EXACTLY, the Popcorn Hour is very picky about case.

Can you post one of the song lines from an XML file? I would like to see what we have. Also post the same line in the corresponding HTML file...

Hi, yes, when I get home (in about 1 hour Smile) I will triple check the name i typed in. Yesterday I had put it in lower case but this morning I changed it to upper, as it should be.. but yes I will check again.

Line from XML:

file:///opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/DOM-PC-MUSIC/Albums/3%20Doors%20Down%20-%20Away%20from%20the%20Sun/3%20Doors%20Down%20-%20Away%20From%20The%20Sun%20-%2009%20-%20Changes.mp3

corresponding line from HTML (I am guessing this is the one you want - there is no line in the HTML which has the path to the music file itself):

<a href="http://localhost.drives:8883/HARD_DISK/MusicJukeBox/mpc_wrapper.cgi?action=addtail%26item=%26referrer=3_Doors_Down__Away_from_the_Sun.htm%26name=10t" name="10t" TVID="10">
<img src="pictures/playbutton.png" border="0" onfocussrc="pictures/playbutton_sel.png" onmouseover="this.src='pictures/playbutton_sel.png';" onmouseout="this.src='pictures/playbutton.png';" alt="10" width="20" height="20" />
</a>

from the XML file for the folder art, which is displayed ok:

<albumart>file:///opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/DOM-PC-MUSIC/Albums/3%20Doors%20Down%20-%20Away%20from%20the%20Sun/Folder.jpg</albumart>

As I said, the main surprise for me is that my own playlists work fine (created using the Jukebox), whereas the "play all" for a given album doesn't play, even though that is a playlist too, albeit an automatically generated one. Given that the path names are the same in each, one would expect them to either both work or not at all!

Also, given that the album art displays ok, the network path must works - and the music is in the same location as the album art.

This is all very odd, because nothing changed on the PCH HDD or on my computer, except for the re-setting of the PCH Network path name..

Your HTML has MPD paths instead of Music Jukebox paths. Do you have MPD installed on the new Popcorn Hour?

I wish I knew what an MPD path is Smile

I guess that means I don't. I did re-generate the HTML last night in an attempt to cure the problem and although I didn't (knowingly) change the settings, something may have gone awry!

Edit: oh, I do have a file called "mpc_now_playing.cgi" in the MusicJukeBox folder on the PCH (where all the HTML is) but no mpc_wrapper.cgi, which is referenced in the HTML. I guess that could be a problem!? The "mpc_now_playing.cgi" file came from a skin (mpdmod-meow)..

by the way, I am now regenerating HTML using v7.4...with Skin set to <none>
By the way, I am now regenerating the HTML using the latest v7.4 with <None> skin.
and as I am writing this I am beginning to see what's going on Big Grin
Should I generate the HTML with a default skin and try it?

Set your skin to Default, click on Delete All HTML and then regenerate. You should be good. You had Music Player Daemon installed on your old unit, which is a replacement for the built-in music player.

yes.. that brings back solme dim and distant memory!! It's like walking through treacle this - and I try to write stuff down but sometimes I forget to. It's hard to believe I was a software developer for 10 years (not this kind of stuff tho!).

Anyway, I set my skin to "<None>" and am regenerating.. I hope this works and that I don't have to re-run with "default" instead. Smile

Yes, it's all good now thanks! Smile

You will want to recreate your MJData\skins\Default folder somehow (Release 8 removes skin NONE support). I am assuming the MPD installation modified some of the Default skin files. If you like, PM me an e-mail address and I can send you a zip file with the Default folder so you don't have to re-install. If you do re-install, copy your MusicJukebox.xml file somewhere else before.

Hi there. I am not too bothered about re-installing it. When I put it on the first place I was just playing around really and didn't get any obvious benefits. I am happy now that everything is working as it was and can enjoy my music again (the only other problem I had was distorted mp3 music, which was resolved by turning down the PCH volume - took me ages that one!).

Thanks for your help, always on hand!
