RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2009-10-01 Re-Release
Question, I have a DAC that accepts USB, Coax and Toslink. I have installed the file that allow me to output the music via Toslink, if I want to try the USB output do I have to remove the mpdaudioplugin or is there a easier way to allow the USB output of the nmt to work?
Thanks, Ed |

Your last remark: "I note that there is no smp86xx_plugin.so in my Apps/mpd/plugins directory (just a READ.ME file)" confirms that the required audioplugin has not been installed. This comes from the second tar-file "MPDAudioPlugin" this also contains the properly configured mpd.conf. I would suggest you untar this second tar-file by hand if you are comfortable in doing so and put all the files in the proper place by hand using a terminal connection. You could check where they have to go by their folder name used in the install.sh script. If you're not comfortable doing it by hand I would suggest you wait till Shadowcode has figured out where his install script fails. - aleg (11-26-2009 03:18 AM)ebag4 Wrote: Question, I have a DAC that accepts USB, Coax and Toslink. I'm using a HDX1000 |

I recommend just waiting out until you're absolutely sure that the database is up to date. Alternatively, just for testing, you could rename your music folder and just leave one audio file. OK .. so we figure that the second process of unzipping the mpdaudioplugin didnt work .. I manually unzipped the files and then copied them to my HDX hard drive overwriting any files that were there originally .. I rebooted the HDX .. now when I do a "ps" there is no mpd tasks active .. If I run sh daemon.sh start from telnet I get daemon.sh: Line 9: syntax error "}" unexpected Cheers Sprogger |

RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2009-10-01 Re-Release
Hi, I used the CSI install and MPD is running. I telnet in with putty and ran the test from post #25 and it showed all the correct lines.
Problem is I cannot get Minion in firefox to play. I have all my music on a NAS that is is a network hshare on the pch a-100. I have nagivated to the share, it works fine. it is mounted on the pch ui. in the MPD conf file under in both the mpd "etc" older and the mpdaudioplugin "etc" folder, i manually edited the conf files using notepad ++. For music directory, I changed the path to: music_directory "file:///opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/hipserv/MyMusic/All_MP3/" where "hipserv" is the name of my network share on the pch, and MyMusic/All_MP3 is the folder where my songs are stored. in the minion settings in entered MPD host: http://192.168.11.84 mpd port: 6600 password: left blank anyone know why minion won't work? thanks in advance |

Got It!!!! There is a daemon.sh in the mpdaudioplugin.tar and another one in the mpd.tar .. the one in the mpdAudioPlugin.tar is not working .. I unpacked mpd.tar manually and used the daemon.sh from this package ... (so we have to use the mpd.conf from mpdAudioPlugin.tar but the daemon.sh from mpd.tar) Bingo .. minion fires up and I get sound from my hdmi connected system (after first playing music with standard music player to initialise the hdmi connection) Gapless playback proves that it is mpd now playing my music Fabulous .... (now just hanging on the hdmi fix for mpd) Many thanks for your help Cheers Sprogger |

RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2009-10-01 Re-Release
Sprogger, I'm glad that you got it working, but i'm not sure if that's actually it; the mpdAudioplugin daemon.sh is supposed to be empty in this version; all work is done during installation, it just copies a few files and that's it.
By copying the mpd daemon.sh you just cause MPD to be started twice, I suppose. (11-27-2009 12:48 AM)wickchucker Wrote: Hi, I used the CSI install and MPD is running. Then at least you know if your installation isn't broken. Other than that I'm not sure if MPD supports the file:// specification (or did you read this from the MPD docs?). Try /opt/rest/of/the/path |

Try /opt/rest/of/the/path I changed the path now, removed the "file" part, so it reads: /opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/hipserv/MyMusic/All_MP3/ but that still did not work should I temporarily try to store some mp3 files in a different directory that mpd and minion can find easier, just to see if it will work? I know MPD is working because when i listen to music on the PCH UI it now has gapless playback and album art. so it appears to be a Minion issue. That is the client I want to use. In the end, I would like -Minion on laptop controlling songs and play lists (including random play, shuffle, m3u playlists) -PCH on, sending audio via coax to AVR -all songs stored on a NAS Anyone else have a similar set up to offer some pointers on how to get it up and running? |

RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2009-10-01 Re-Release
So, after giving it a second shot I was able to install mpd properly.
But, I even got connectet with minion. But now two new issues came up. 1st: The Harddisk didn't stop anymore. It spun for 4 days. I had to delete mdp and reboot to stop it again, 2nd: My screen was flickering so there was no way you could watch anything on the HDX. Any ideas whats wrong? |

I don't have an HDX, but a PCH A-100 and I don't share your experience with a continuous spinning harddisk. For the second problem you might try this: I don't your settings in the mpd.conf, but you might try changing the ramdac variable in the audio_output section to "1". This will move the mpd to a different part of memory. - aleg -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PCH A100 (Stable firmware), 250GB 2.5"" WD Caviar-PATA, Connected to Pioneer KRL32V at HDMI 1080p60/50/24, Ubuntu Server NAS, Naim DAC + XPS-2, mpd + iPod with mPod |

RE: Music Player Daemon (MPD) 2009-10-01 Re-Release
I installed it last week using the instructions and it works like a charm! There are three small problems I experience:
1. As soon as I add a song to Minion's playlist, the connection is lost to my PCH. I can just reconnect but it takes a lot of time if you make a nice playlist ![]() 2. My harddisk also keeps spinning constantly (PCH-A110), which it didn't do before. 3. The SD theme is to big for my TV |
