The PCH is not a HTPC. To compare the two is a waste of time. Compare the PCH to a BluRay player as they have similar power. Will a BluRay player play the rips you refer? No it wont s BluRay players only play HP@L4 files whereas the files you refer to are most likely HP@L5.1.
Read the forum the issue has been discussed many times. If you would like specific advice then please add a thread in general section with FULL details of your network setup, how you are playing, what devices, what files specs are etc etc. Run the files that dont play through avinaptics to find out why there are problems etc. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

It would be nice to avoid the video/music/picture selection screen when picking a source by enabling setting it at mapping stage.
(ie, below url/login/password adding a box if the user want to specify the unique mode for this network share) keith_d99 Wrote:Yeah would be great to get something on the music front!!!+1, really a needed feature (for mp3 or music video clips) :oP |

Could you please tell me what is avinaptics? |

The PCH is fully compliant with HP@L4.
It will play most HP@L4.1 files, some 1080p releases with full resolution 1920x1080 with > 4 reference frames may have problems. It will play most HP@L5.1 files, some 1080p releases with > 4 reference frames may not play. The PCH/NMT does NOT claim to be FULLY compliant to L4.1 or L5.1. RE: Firmware 01-15-080330-14-POP-402 (NMT 00-15-080320) released
Syabas have stated that they will look at introducing a last position resume for the ast played file only. This should enable a quick implementation as it is stored in flash memory and doesnt require a database etc.

RE: Firmware 01-15-080330-14-POP-402 (NMT 00-15-080320) released
Chris,
If I do have a file (.mkv) that is giving me issues (1080p, L5.1, etc) - is there a way I can make it into a different file type so it will play? I am jsut getting started with the PCH and want to try and get as many of these files to play as possible. Example - I have a 1080p L5.1 file that will play but won't stay stable for very long. Can I demux (is that even the term?) to a .m2ts or something else that the PCH would be happier with? And I have myiHome running through a wired connection to the PCH - is this the best way to play the files on the PCH, or should I invest in an internal HD? Thanks
Video: HDMI to 1080p HDTV Audio: HDMI / Digital Optical -> DTS receiver Connection: Win 7 -> HTTP (myiHome) / SMB (wizd) -> Wired Cat 6 connection -> PCH-200 |

RE: Firmware 01-15-080330-14-POP-402 (NMT 00-15-080320) released
You can remux to a m2ts file in about 5 mins with TSMuxerGUI. A m2ts file does not need any parsing unlike an mkv file. Therefore occasionally you will find an mkv that when remuxed to m2ts plays.
Muxing means no quality loss. A remux is putting together video and audio into a container. A demux means taking the combined video/audio and seperating them into two files. By taking a mkv and changing to m2ts you are remuxing even though the original file was just the one stream. The firmware hopefully out today has a new mkv parsing implementation from haali which has helped even out the difference between mkv and m2ts, The new firmware has increased SMB streaming rates significantly. Http rates are slightly lower but with the vast increase in SMB and the fact that a lot of network devices use SMB its more like 5 steps forward 1 back. For those that wont play after remuxing to m2ts then a rencode is the only way. RE: Firmware 01-15-080330-14-POP-402 (NMT 00-15-080320) released
Chris, do you know if the new firmware can play shortcut files (*.lnk) over SMB? The main reason I used myihome was because of the ability to do this, so I could have all my movies sorted into alphabetical order despite them not being in order on the various drives.

I wonder why people keep writing in old firmware threads, couldn't you close them when new ones come out?
