DTS Hardware question

Hi everyone, first post here...

I just got my PCH yesterday and love it, but have run into a few issues, the biggest being not being able to play DTS .mkv files with sound. I have converted a few today to AC3 and they come out fine, and I am not particularly worried about the difference in quality. I would like to be able to play the DTS files as is however. Here is the set up I am using... What am I missing?

PCH connected to TV (Vizio VX42L) via HDMI. TV to reciever (JVC THC50 - kind of low end HTIB) via optical cable.

I thought my receiver supported DTS, and a quick google search confirms this (or is there a difference between decoding and processing a DTS stream?)

Am I losing something having the audio go into the TV and out to the receiver?

I also have an Onkyo HTR510 receiver that I don't use much anymore that I know supports DTS, I just haven't felt like setting it up in the room to test. Ultimately I will probably end up using the Onkyo for good, as I only bought the JVC because at the time it was one of the only systems that upconverted, played xvid, and had a USB input - but other than that I don't like it all that much...

If your receiver supports DTS then you need to run from the PCH via coaxial direct to it. If your receiver has HDMI in then you go from the PCH>Receiver>TV with two HDMI cables.
