multi hdd enclosures
i'm placing this here since it concerns both primary units

how do the c200 and a110 handle a hdd enclosure that puts 2 separates hdd on a single usb line?
i favor the Rosewill R2-JBOD which as the name suggests lets each drive stand alone although it does have a araid option aswell

till i can get a good nas i plan on just using usb for a while but i want to make sure that these enclosures wont cause problems.

Feature request for the A200/C200:
Option to disable Popcorn Upscaling - let your TV/AVR upscale

RE: multi hdd enclosures
I've got an Icybox with 2 HDD's in it via one usb connection and they come up as USB_DRIVE_A-1 and USB_DRIVE_B-1 in the NMT and via SMB. This is on an A-110 - not sure if the C-200 differs.

RE: multi hdd enclosures
generally DAS units work just fine. I myself have a 4 bay DAS400 connected as separate JBOD drives. Several people on here have multiple 2 bay DAS, and others have a series of single USB drives hooked up to USB hubs which then connect to their PCH.

as Bazrah says, the C-200 differs slightly, it uses drive labels so you get

USB_DRIVE_B-1.drive label

although syabas are looking into making this simpler and just using the label.

But basically JBOD/DAS is fine and works very well. Most of the time you don't really need a NAS as the PCH shares a DAS over the network anyway.

Storage Options
C-200, A-110, DAS400, Denon 1909 via HDMI, TXP42X10, KEF Q3 and Q9C surround

Not being picky Gibbo, but USB_DRIVE_B-1 seems to be the same as on the A-110? Wink

lol, I wrote

Code:

didn't realise that the forum would remove that text as script. Blush

Why thank you Smile such a friendly community Tongue

if you notice in the quote of my first post it is actually written as

i've had to put it in code marks to stop it vanishing again, but the drive label is always there when you click quote Tongue

RE: multi hdd enclosures
I've recently put in a DAS400 - only got two drives at the moment

on the odd occasion I need to reboot the A110, it swaps the two drive letters around

anybody know how to prevent this from happening?

it's a minor gripe, but YANFOE gets confused and rebuilds my films as they're not on the same disc when last used

RE: multi hdd enclosures
That's odd... have you tried maybe moving the drives to different bays inside the DAS? i've never seen that issue, both my A-110 and C-200 always assign the same letters so long as I don't move the drives around inside.

I'll try that but the same thing happened when I had two separate external HDD via USB up until a month ago

when I say reboot, I mean turn off using switch on the back

My enclosure with 2 HDD's seems to keep the same drive order too on the A-110

Go bigger cause 2 drives can fill very fast. Im looking at that one waiting for the price to drop a little to connect it to my WHS.

RE: multi hdd enclosures
i've considered larger but i trust rosewill. plus until i can find a job just getting 2 1TB hdds is a several month project. and i dont do a lot of downloading. i mainly plan on ripping my dvd collection to ether isos or folders (probably iso since its harder to get yamj to pick the dvd menu when compiling from foldered from that i've heard).

as it stands by rough estamate ive got just about 1TB of regular movies/tv(entire household not just mine, and i'll only need to rip a little over half of those once we get a second nmt in the house) and about 300GB anime dvds(all mine baby... no matter how pitiful it is. got a few hard to come by ones like Maze).

i've recently lost direction on which pch to buy since according to this thread the c200 cant do 5.1 or 7.1 audio, only stereo. i'm looking to get an a110 now but if someone can confirm other wise i'll be looking at the c200 again.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

does the 4 bay you listed accept more than 2TB? the reviewers seem not to think so... but on the other hand i have an enclosure that isnt supposed to support sata II and does so i'm just confirming since i might get one.

That 5.1 audio thing only applies to BluRay playback due to the HDaudio mixed in with the regular track, i get 5.1 audio all th etime from my C200 for all my MKVs, BTW im an anime fan too and most of them only come in Stereo enjlish and 5.1 Japanese Undecided

Im sure the enclosure can support more than 2TB as many users use them as an extension to their WHS. But its up to the OS to see the 2TB.
