RE: Step by Step Guide to installing YAMJ for Mac OS X
Ok I did my homework so please no yelling at me...
I just got my NMT (PCH C-200) and was hoping to find a way to install YAMJ decked out in the AEON skin so I scoured these forums looking for an easy how-to tutorial for Mac OS X since most the support on these forums seems to be geared towards Windows users When I came across this thread and the OP's tutorial, it was a godsend. I got my PCH C-200 only yesterday, and jumped right on here hoping to get everything installed. I just ran across some problems: Problem #1: In the OP's guide in the 1st post on this thread, near the beginning at "File requirements", he says I need "Java SE6 (64bit)" then gives a link below where I can get it. There's nothing at that link, just a "sorry; we can't find the article you're looking for" Here, see for yourselves please. Just to be sure I wasn't being a noob and asking the same question as someone else in the subsequent 9 pages, I went through ALL of them and read through. No one mentioned the link given was expired. I have SOME kind of Java installed om my mac already, so, I ask, where do I get the Java I need to pull this install off without a hitch? Now, Problem #2: In going through ALL the 9 pages looking for my answer to my first problem, I found a post from an "Auggie" (post #110 on the 8th page, to be exact) linking to his website before he answers the question of the poster immediately before him, which had MY problem: I couldn't find the MediaInfo CLI (even using the "Go To" method he explains) to put in the MediaInfo folder I was to create in the "Jukebox" folder. Auggie says he has an answer to this problem on his site, so I'm like "Oh, that's alright I'm just working with slightly outdated information, I'll go to this guy's site. No biggie." Except I get there and his way (a little ways down his tutorial, at the end of his "Installation" segment) of moving the "MediaInfo Folder" to the proper location doesn't make sense at all! There's no CLI or even a way to get to it, there's only a GUI by way of the .dmg once you mount it! Again, this doesn't make sense, at least to me. Hence my frustration. Judging by the similarity of these two tutorials I'm assuming the steps with getting the MediaInfo CLI into the proper location are pretty crucial to the successful installation of this jukebox with this particular skin (which, coming from failed attempts with XBMC to be my media player, is the skin I wanted anyway) Anyways.........If I can get help from the power users on here on how to get past this early (and probably simple, just not to retards like me..) step in the installation process, there would be mountainous amounts of appreciation to you from me. I hope the length and detail of this post (sorry) demonstrate my commitment to this awesome product line with the community behind it and desire to see this through with a little help Thank you, Grant Running a: (now outdated?) RE: Step by Step Guide to installing YAMJ for Mac OS X
I'm not using TOMY or whatever (I don't know if you're using that) - I just configure the .properties files myself. Just a disclaimer.
Okay, so from what I can tell you're wondering whether the version of Java you have is okay, and where to get and put the mediaInfo binary. First, java: Go to Terminal and enter "java -version" (without the quotes). You should get something like this (assuming you're on 10.6): java version "1.6.0_22" Java SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261) Java HotSpot 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.1-b03-307, mixed mode) As long as it's 1.6.x_xx, then you need to install absolutely nothing extra. And the reason the link didn't work is because it got truncated with a bunch of ellipses for some reason. If you don't get that, and you're on 10.6, the Java version you need is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl972 If you're on 10.5, I'm sure you can use Google (whether to search for Java or for a 10.6 install disc lolz). Second, mediaInfo: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainf...fo/0.7.41/ Boom, done. You were just looking at the GUI package not the binary, sillyyyy. Just to be extra clear, ignore the "helpful" link saying latest version, and click the one for Mac with the big "CLI" (Command Line Interface) letters in it. Download it, put it here: http://cl.ly/51rZ Name the folder and the binary both "mediaInfo" (case sensitive) as that is where YAMJ looks by default - of course you can change it to look wherever the hell you want. You can bang it in /usr/local/bin if you want it available from Terminal as part of your $PATH, but I daresay you won't. Btw, I've just called the folder that contains my YAMJ setup "YAMJ" in my home directory - obviously you'll place your mediaInfo folder and file wherever you have your YAMJ setup. HTH. |

RE: Step by Step Guide to installing YAMJ for Mac OS X
Thanks a lot for your reply chimpy,
No I am not using TOMY, I've heard about it (TOMY) while bouncing around in these forums but figured I'd try installing YAMJ with the Aeon skin via the method given here step-by-step so there would be less chances for something to go wrong. Yeah, that didn't work out too well. But thanks! I found out which Java I had running via terminal per your instructions and it turns out I am running version "1.6.0_22" so I am good. As for the MediaInfo CLI, I downloaded it from where you specified and found the CLI in terminal and placed it in the "mediaInfo" folder within my "Jukebox" folder, as it said to do in Post #1 of this thread. Again, two questions: #1: It said in Post #1 that I should CREATE a folder called "mediaInfo" in my "Jukebox" folder in my Applications folder on my mac And since this forum is actually kinda different than others I've used I don't know how to properly quote, so I'll put it in parentheses: "Open [Jukebox] and create a folder called mediaInfo (very important to note the capitalized I in the middle – the name is case sensitive). Move the installed CLI file from /usr/local/bin to the mediaInfo folder you’ve just created." However, when I downloaded the YAMJ folder and renamed it per his instructions, it already HAD a folder named mediaInfo!! So I placed the "mediaInfo CLI" in there but I wondered, and will you chimpy if not someone else tell me: Will this mess me up? Do I have the wrong downloaded folder and as such will not be able to install YAMJ with the Aeon skin like I want to? and now, QUESTION #2: Again in the first post on this thread containing the tutorial, the OP says to check the "Moviejukebox.sh" file in a text editor which I did, and he says it should look like this: (Again, because I don't know how to properly quote [anyone feel free to let me know how to do THAT as well please feel free to do so]) "#!/bin/sh # Intel Mac users : needs java 1.6, set fullpath to java 1.6 instead of default java # This path is usually : /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Commands/java /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Commands/java -Xms256m -Xmx512m -classpath .:./resources:./lib/* com.moviejukebox.MovieJukebox "$@"" But mine doesn't; it looks like THIS: #!/bin/sh # Intel Mac users : needs java 1.6, set fullpath to java 1.6 instead of default java # This path is usually : /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Commands/java java -Xms256m -Xmx1024m -classpath .:./resources:./lib/* com.moviejukebox.MovieJukebox "$@" Which leads me to believe even though I have Java INSTALLED, it's not in the right PLACE...Please someone tell me, Is this the case? He says something about installation prior to giving his example, but I didn't understand if he meant to say if mine was somewhere else it would complicate things. Once again, thanks chimpy for your help mate and also to anyone else who's awesome enough to help me with this. I'm trying to get it right Running a: (now outdated?) Move the installed CLI file from /usr/local/bin to the mediaInfo folder you’ve just created." Release versions of YAMJ include a MediaInfo folder by default now which usually just includes a readme.txt file so placing the mediaInfo cli file in that default folder is perfectly fine. Code: and now, QUESTION #2:Your version of moviejukebox.sh is fine. I'm using version r1275 of YAMJ and the default moviejukebox.sh included by default is exactly the same as yours. I need to update some of these instructions as so much has changed not only with YAMJ but also with Mac OS X since I wrote this. When running YAMJ for the first time the essential aspects to get right regardless of what skin you choose is the filepaths and playerpaths for your media library specified in your library.xml file. Adding the latest mediaInfo CLI file so that you get all the metadata of your video files scraped. The moviejukebox.sh and moviejukebox.properties files are included by default. Add the skin directory to the skins folder in your jukebox and run it with the default options activated. Once you have a successful scan then you can play around with the customised options to suit your preferences. Sing out if you need a hand. RE: Step by Step Guide to installing YAMJ for Mac OS X
What Kokonutcreme said is right.
That folder within the Jukebox folder is the one you put it in. The only reason all that "/System..." stuff appears before the command in the first one, and not your one, is because yours is default. You only need the "/System..." bit if the right java command/binary isn't being referred to, but because we checked in Terminal, and it pointed to the right version, it doesn't matter. Have a search on here for "sabishGT". It's an all-in-one that provides YAMJ and the skin in one unzip-and-run folder! That's what I first used, and I've stuck with it. It's a beautiful skin, and has matured now with lots of features

RE: Step by Step Guide to installing YAMJ for Mac OS X
This is great. Good to have the OP's help on this, Kokonutcreme. And chimpy: thanks for the suggestion with the all-in-one, but I'd like to go ahead and install YAMJ with the Aeon skin instead. I don't know; call it for nostalgia's sake from trying to get the XBMC media player with the Aeon skin working but failing miserably. But that led me to the mama of all media players: Popcorn Hour, so the experience wasn't completely wasted
![]() Now, Kokonutcreme: Thanks so much; by now I've downloaded the latest build of YAMJ as instructed from here, the latest Aeon skin from here, along with the Overscan tool and Nodak's Smoked Glass mod found in the next couple of dozen lines or so below the download and mirrors options. I downloaded the MediaInfo CLI for Mac from here as per chimpy's helpful instruction in post #138 (just a few posts ago) and found the MediaInfo Unix file via Finder and put it in it's place as I was directed, ~/Applications/Jukebox/MediaInfo. I took the Aeon skin folder, renamed it to BACKUP, and placed it in ~/Applications/Jukebox/Skins. I took the contents of the the AeonSmokedGlass Mod's folder and put them in ~/Applications/Jukebox/skins/default/html/pictures. I made sure I had a compatible version of Java, again as per chimpy's instructions a few posts ago. Now, according to what you said in your last post when you said "so much has changed not only with YAMJ but also with Mac OS X since I wrote this" (again, I'm not putting it in quotes to be facetious, I just still haven't figured out how to quote properly on these forums) should I be on the right track so far, and ready to proceed? Thank you, I'd like to get to what must be the simple task of making the paths to the external HDD's where my media is so that my PCH C-200 can recognize them and get to doing it's magic, but just two things hav kept me from replying to your post earlier, and that is that I'm waiting to receive my high-capacity USB connected hard drive so I can move all my movies to ONE device to make editing the example-library.xml file that much simpler, and 2: I'm waiting for my Wifi USB dongle from Popcorn Hour to arrive as well, seeing as how I can't seem to stop living in houses not built in the last 100 years there is no ethernet cable I can run to my PCH C-200 to get it connected to do the eventual movie info scrap it has to. But I figured the two things above were taking too long and I'd better reply asap and let both you guys know how I appreciate you helping me out, since I'm sure it's widely accepted in these forums that ungrateful posters are d-bags as is also the case in life in general. So, once the HDD and the USB dongle arrives I should be ready to edit my library.xml file and start scraping? Or is there anything else I'm missing or that I can do And again, thanks. Thanks again for your help buddy...I was wondering: I have the USB dongle and everything in order it seems, you wanna PM or email me or I could just do the same and you could help me get this goin between a PCH and a mac? Said to sing out if I needed any help, and haha...that I definitely do. There's a whole mess of guides and stuff that are all over the place as far as this thing goes. RE: Step by Step Guide to installing YAMJ for Mac OS X
Hey grant,
This is how I connect to my libraries: • Enable NFS on the PCH. • Give it a static IP. (Hopefully you know how to do this). I then made myself an AppleScript that mounts the internal drive and all the USB drives to /Volumes/some_folder via NFS (the protocol that I've found is fastest for me). The AppleScript is here: http://cl.ly/5R2S Simply open it up and edit the bits that say "/Volumes/myka[_A/B]" to whatever name you like (Keep the /Volumes part though!) Next, edit the bits the IPs to the static IP of your PCH. Finally, change the paths of the PCH to whatever you want to mount (the ":/share/Download", etc. parts) The "&&" in the script is just joining multiple commands together. If you don't have three drives, just remove one of the commands. My corresponding library.xml file is like so: http://cl.ly/5QpO Obviously you would change the "Film" and "TeeVee" folders to wherever your media was located. Tell me how you get on! |

Son of a... Thanks you guys, I had my notifications set so that any further posts on this thread and I'd get an instant email, but it never emailed me...crap. I guess I'll have to manually check from now on.
Chimpy: Thanks a ton for the pointers, however...I do not know how to get started on these as I am extremely, shamefully new to all of this and I don't even know how to "enable NFS" on the PCH C-200 Sad, I know...Kokonutcreme: Thanks and I'll PM you soon; I appreciate it... RE: Step by Step Guide to installing YAMJ for Mac OS X
Can anyone help me with my problem?
I tried using mac to run yamj and was successful. However, when I connect the usb external drive to an old popcorn a110, it won't display the cover art and when selecting the movie(blank transparent rectangular cover), I get an error. When I connect the USB back to my Mac, I see the cover art and when I select the movie, it goes to the details page The drive already has movies in it and a working YAMJ created by windows. But when I added a new movie and used MAC(same settings and skin) to update the Library on the USB, the new movies added showed a blank cover art. Any ideas? |

RE: Step by Step Guide to installing YAMJ for Mac OS X
Hi all, relative newbie to the whole usenet gig. I have managed to get my c300 up and running with SB, CP, and SABNZB and saw and been reading a lot about YAMJ.
Was wondering if this guide was still valid for me to follow. My MAC is a couple of months old running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4. I started following a couple of the instructions and things weren't going as described moviejukebox_v2 seemed to download already unzipped, CLI did not go /usr/local/bin and so on. So I thought I would stop and check before going any further. Hope someone can help! Thx |
