Why not the A-100?
Just purchased my first PCH, it is an A-100 that I bought on eBay for $100 plus $10 shipping....$110 invested and it includes a 250gb hard drive. Currently my setup in my media room has a receiver that will accept and process a signal through HDMI, there are 3 other TVs in my house and each uses only the built in speakers. Media is stored on a Windows Home Server. From reading the forum and Wiki it appears to me that the "limitations" of the A-100 won't effect me based on my current setup. With patients I can purchase 3 or 4 A-100s for the cost of 1 C-200. Am I missing something? Any reason the A-100 won't work for me?

RE: Why not the A-100?
The three other tv's without a receiver wont be able to decode DTS audio. This is the major limitation of the A-100 over the A-110, it all depends if you plan to have any files with DTS sound?
If it is your own collection, most DVD's with DTS sound also have a DD track, or alternatively heartware created a program that converts DTS to DD. (For ref, the other 2 big differences are no USB slave on the A-100, and IDE HDD over Sata) |

Thanks Gibbo, all the movies that I have are my own rips (I have about 400 to do, 20 completed) so if I understand you correctly as long as I make certain I include the stereo track when I rip disks all will be fine? Is there any simple way to make certain I have done this on the first 20 disks I ripped? I think YAMJ contains this info? Since I plan on storing files on my WHS the hard drive situation isn't and issue...not sure how the USB slave issue effects me. Mike |

RE: Why not the A-100?
The A100 & A110 are both great players and will do what you want.
With WHS remember to use SMB or myihome to server and not the inbuilt windows media server. There will be a replacement announced soon for the A110 we feel. This may make a fewmore A110 hit ebay as users look to upgrade. I'd make a bet that you could get them as cheap as the A100 if you wait for that. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

RE: Why not the A-100?
Yes think its Twonky just couldn't remember which one.
Normal Windows sharing is SMB and myihome is the NMT equivalent of Twonky that is for use with WHS etc.:- http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/i...hp/MyiHome http is quicker but has problems with DVD video_ts and ISO playback so you need both on the A100/110. On the C200 you can get away with just SMB as the extra power of the cpu enables faster streaming processing. Most likely you are using Windows Media Connect. How are you ripping them? most methods of ripping dvd's will keep everything in. |

RE: Why not the A-100?
I'd be shocked if dvdfab were removing the DD track, very shocked. Also, not a great deal of dvd's actually have dts tracks anyway, and as I said, where they do they have a DD track which you will have ripped too so you're fine.
