Full BD Navigation.....
I'm new to the Popcorn Hour devices and I'm not too sure what these things are capable of doing. Some questions i had as i was looking at the comparison of the devices (the a-200 and the c-200), are:
1a.) Why does the c-200 have Full BD Navigation capabilities and the a-200 only have Simple BD Navigation capabilities? From my understanding they use the same chip and whatnot, so I'm not sure if it's a technicality, firmware issue or what the deal is there. 1b.) Will the a-200 ever have the ability for Full BD Navigation? 2.) Has anyone with the c-200 ripped a BD onto their folder that the c-200 reads and been able to pull up the FULL BD, as it is when you insert a BD into a Blu ray player with all the menus and audio options and extras, etc.? If anyone could help me out with this confusion, it would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! |

RE: Full BD Navigation.....
1a.) The C-200 is a licensed blu-ray player, therefore it has full BD navigation - the A-200 are not blu-ray licensed, hense does not have full BD navigation
1b.) No, the A-200 will never have blu-ray license - thus never full BD navigation 1c.) Same rules apply to other media players, if they dont have a blu-ray license, they cannot have full BD navigation, even if the hardware would be capable. Media players without license can only implement a simpler BD-lite version which is basically just a simple menu created by the manufacturer to be able to switch audiotracks and subtitles, nothing more. 2.) Yes, the C-200 are fully capable of that. Living room: C200/A200/A100 HDMI to Pioneer KURO KRP-500A plasma / Denon AVR 3808 / KEF 5005.2 / B&W DM685 Kids room: C200/A110 HDMI to Panasonic 42PZ85, Optical to Logitech Z5500. You made things easy for me I currently have a WDTV Live and after seeing what the PCH devices can do with YAMJ, I feel like I've wasted money. Do you guys really think the PCH is the best media player out there?

RE: Full BD Navigation.....
I do...Be aware that they're still working on a lot of bugs, but for my set-up and how I use my media, its by far the best. Without the C-200, I wouldn't be able to rip my BD's to my server and play the special features, menu's, etc. contained on those BD's. Sure, I have a BD player for that but I found it hard to watch movies before using that 'old school' method and now I watch movies ALL the time because its just sooooo much more convenient to turn on the PCH and choose a movie. YAMJ helps A LOT with that because its such an awesome front-end GUI for the movies.

Yes, its advertised with BD lite feature, so I would certainly assume that

Plus, if it ends up working on the A-110 as they've suggested that would be a huge bonus so that I can use the A-110 with my existing movie collection... |

And the BDLite alternative will also be available on the C-200. You will be able to choose which way you wish to play your BD files.

I'm new to this so correct me if I'm wrong, but BD Navigation is the ability to navigate through the menu of the Blu-ray disk. Full Blu-ray Disk Navigation is where the menu looks EXACTLY as it does when you insert the Blu-ray into a Blu-ray player. Simple BD Navigation is where the the menu is simplified in some way... |

RE: Full BD Navigation.....
Correct, only through having a BD license can you have the likes of the actual disc menu and features such as timeline, BDLive, etc.
BDLite is like having main movie only option. The A-200 only BDLite, the C-200 full Bd playback and also option for BDLite playback as well. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

RE: Full BD Navigation.....
You cannot use the C200 to rip discs.
You have to rip on a PC, the C200 will then play that rip as if it were the actual disc you insert and not just mount it and play the m2ts movie files. You can still have timeline, BDLive etc. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |
