How to change the aspect ratio (AR) of a video without recompressing?
Well, I have a video in a container .TS, the compression codec used is .264 and I would change the aspect ratio (AR) from 16:9 to 2:35, because in the popcorn now the image is elongated.
I tried with "mkvmerge gui" and it does, but only changes the aspect ratio if I play the video with BSPlayer or another player in the computer, but if I play in the popcorn you can still see the image enlarged.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much.

RE: How to change the aspect ratio (AR) of a video without recompressing?
Wich series are you using currently A-1x0 or the X-200? The X-200 series currently ignoring the aspect ratio setting in the mkv container, on the A-1x0 series it should work fine, unless the video is resumed form a bookmark then it's also ignore the AR setting in the container.

If you mean popcorn, popcorn is the c-200 with firmware [29 Jan. 2010].

So what can I do?

Can I put the video into another container compatible with the C-200 and that would modify the aspect ratio?

RE: How to change the aspect ratio (AR) of a video without recompressing?
There are no known issues with aspect ratio from a normal .ts container with h264 video
These work perfectly fine with correct aspect ratio on my C-200 - in both 16:9 or 2:35 and both cropped or uncropped (as far as I can remember but Ill test again to be sure)

Sounds like theres something else wrong - either a wrong flag in the h264.ts or wrong aspect ratio / zoom mode selected on either the C-200 or the Display

Tell us more and post a media info report of the file giving you trouble

What kind of TV are you connected to - CRT or HDTV ?
How is the player connected - Composite, Component or HDMI
What are your Video settings on the player - 720p, 1080p something else ? did you select 16:9 as tv-type under setup ?
What zoom mode have you selected - full screen, fit to screen ?
What zoom mode have you selected on your TV ?? Automatic, Wide, or something else ?

RE: How to change the aspect ratio (AR) of a video without recompressing?
- My TV is normal, not HD, but this is not the problem.
- The player connected is HDMI.
- The movie with "the problem" is 1280x720 and y want to see it in 1280x528 to correct the image enlarged.
- Mi tv is select 16:9, if I change to 4:3 the problem in this movie disappears, but then the problem appears in the rest of videos from the hard drive of popcorn c-200, so this is not a good solution.
-With the zoom there is nothing to do, now is "fit to screen" and is perfect, and the same with the tv zoom (this is not the problem).

What I want to know is if I can definitely change the aspect ratio of this movie in particular without recompressing.

Thank you again.

Quote:- My TV is normal, not HD, but this is not the problem.

If you are connected with HDMI your TV has to be either a HDTV flatscreen, or some PC monitor
- a "normal" CRT TV do not have HDMI inputs and an older flatscreen which is not HD only has DVI.
HDMI connection automatically means HD

What TV do you have ? Make and model ?

Quote:- Mi tv is select 16:9, if I change to 4:3 the problem in this movie disappears, but then the problem appears in the rest of videos from the hard drive of popcorn c-200, so this is not a good solution.

If your TV are 16:9 then its correctly set for 16:9 and you should not change that.

Quote:With the zoom there is nothing to do, now is "fit to screen" and is perfect, and the same with the tv zoom (this is not the problem).

Fit to screen are correctly set - I cant say anything about your tv zoom setting based on what you inform, but if it works with other files I take your word that its correct Smile

Quote:What I want to know is if I can definitely change the aspect ratio of this movie in particular.

no, you cannot change aspect ratio in a .ts file manually
- if the video inside are encoded correctly, the muxer creating the .ts file will set correct aspect ratio flag automatically.
- if the video inside are encoded wrong, you cannot fix it in a .ts by setting a "wrong" aspect ratio manually (but you may be able to "fix" it by remuxing it to an mkv, more on that later)

Quote:- The movie with "the problem" is 1280x720 and y want to see it in 1280x528 to correct the image enlarged.

That should not be needed
If the movie is encoded in 1280x720 then it should not need to be changed to 1280x528 aspect ratio, and it should play correctly with the 16:9 flag
If the movie is encoded in 1280x528 (having black bars cropped out) then it should allready have a 2:35 aspect ratio flag and play correctly also
So something seems to be wrong about your file - Please post a media info report so we can give you the best advice on what to do.

RE: How to change the aspect ratio (AR) of a video without recompressing?
Probably it's an anamorphic TV broadcast.

I checked in tsMuxeR there is an aspect ratio (AR) box, but I can't enable it no matter what I do so that is not a solution. Muxing into mkv that he is tried would be the ideal solution (or at least a solution), but as I said earlier the C-200 doesn't honor the AR selected in the mkv muxer.

RE: How to change the aspect ratio (AR) of a video without recompressing?
Well, I think I explained very clearly what I want to do.
I know that with an .avi file it is possible with the program MPEG4Modifier, if in a container .TS is no possible to fix the aspect ratio, well.........

Thank you Mr. Moderator.
I think we understand mar_tin.
If you find any muxer allowing the possibility of changing the "AR" and to remain in the popcorn c-200, let me know.

Thank you.

Quote:Probably it's an anamorphic TV broadcast.

Thats possible, but these also works on my C-200 - I record many TV broadcasts in both mpeg2 and h264, and both SD and HD in .ts containers - they all work, including anamorphic ones because they have 16:9 display aspect ratio signaling which do get honored by the C-200

It's possible that the TS file in question is already remuxed with some application an that removed the 16:9 display aspect ratio signaling. To be honest I doesn't have too much experience in this field.

Thats definately possible mar_tin

I still would have liked to see a media info report - to see what the file was - then we might be able to find a way to "fix" it
But it looks as if original poster dont think Im trying to help Smile

RE: How to change the aspect ratio (AR) of a video without recompressing?
The solution:
I put the video file .264 in the "Yamb" and made an .mp4 with video only, forcing the aspect ratio (AR) to 4:3, and the AR was fixed.

After I put the .mp4 in the "mkvmerge" and added the audios and subtitles and made a. mkv, the aspect ratio I wanted (4:3) remains when play the .mkv in the popcorn c-200.

Well thank you all.
