Current DTS Standpoint?
I pretty much read these forums everyday and I know this topic is brought up a lot but I'm wondering where the PCH currently stands on onboard DTS Decoding.
Yes, i know everyone is going to respond with get an AV receiver but the PCH is going in my bedroom and sorry i dont want a full surround system there. I'm also aware of the heartwave program and have used it. It's great but i'd rather not have to remux every movie i download. Istar is going official with their onboard DTS decoding module May 16th Is PCH going to combat it with any kind of DTS module? Are they contemplating getting a license at all? I love the PCH and think it's a great device and has a great community(congrats chris57 on mod) but i'm constantly seeing newer technology upgrades in the istar while the PCH doesn't seem to be responding at all to user hardware suggestions. Thanks! |

According to
http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=...c&start=15 Quote:The Sigma Designs 8634/8635 chip can decode DTS on its own. So why is there a need for additional hardware? So 'only' because of license issues DTS decoding isn't already supported. There isn't any real need for additional hardware nor would I want to solder something inside my Popcorn when I could simply download a firmware which enables DTS decoding. I would gladly pay a one-time-license-fee to get access to a plugin or whatever to enable DTS decoding on-chip. |

Istar is launching onboard, due to soldering, DTS downsampling to stereo for $30-$40.
Please post in the feature request section to raise the profile. I too would love to pay a one-off fee for the greyed out option in the SETUP>audio to bring DTS stereo:- http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=3005 A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

I want to have more information on how the "external" DTS decoder chip works... maybe we could build a cheap DTS->2ch stereo connected to the SPDIF connector for us PCH owners.... I don't want to buy a full AVR for this purpose...
(Of course, the alternative of paying for a DTS enabled firmware is even better... but this is my second choice) Regards // OwL |

If you look at the card that is sent out by Istar it looks adaptable for the PCH by one of you clever folks:-

[PH] We are current checking with DTS on licensing cost. As I know, it is not cheap. Once we know their cost structure and able to complete the license deal, we will make a decision. Using DTS decoder module doesn't mean able to avoid DTS licensing issue, and prefer not to involve on legal consequence activity. Supporting DTS decodeb is just compile in DTS driver into A-100 firmware. It is just the legal issue thats matter. Popcorn Hour support team |

Popcorn Hour please make a decision as soon as possible.
Most people (including myself) are also willing to pay a license fee to get the DTS decoding. Just DO IT!
