Multiple nmt units in the same network
Hi all, I'VE HAD A PCH-A110 FOR OVER A YEAR AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT SO FAR. iT IS CURRENTLY WIRED TO MY LCD DOWNSTAIRS THROUGH A LINKSYS WRT54G ROUTER. wE RECENTLY BOUGHT A PCH-A200 AND HAVE TRIED CONNECTING IT WIRELESSLY THROUGH THE SAME ROUTER WITH A WIRELESS N ADAPTER PROVIDED BY THE RETAILER HOWEVER THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM EXISTS AND I CANT SEEM TO FIX IT ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
THE PCH-A200 SEES MY PC WITH MY SHARED FOLDERS (RUNNING IHOME LITE FOR THE A-110) BUT WHEN I TRY TO PLAY MY FILES IT KICKs ME BACK TO THE PREVIOUS PAGE.Everything still works fine with the pch-a110 downstairs the problem is with the a-200 upstairs.Could there be an issue with running an "n" adapter on a g network, I can ping the pch-a200 fine and the network settings for the pch-a200 says wifi connected and i see all my files I just can't play them.

Thanks

Windows 7 Ultimate
3.4ghz Phenom

RE: Multiple nmt units in the same network
I don't think it's your router as the "n" adapter should be backwards compatible with a "g" network, although you may not get the speeds necessary to stream HD video...

Have you setup shares on your A-200? In the first place, I would just share a folder on your PC where you have the movies, then setup that share on your A-200. Navigate to the share via the A-200 browser and click on the movie, check if it plays this way?

To get HD video (bluray rips, etc) you probably are going to need to upgrade your router to "n", otherwise most likely you will get stuttering.

It certainly explains why my a-200 is able to see all my shared folders, but not why it won't play all the files within them. Funny thing is they all stream flawlessly to the a-110 downstairs from myihome lite

If the A-110 is connected via wireless, and that works for you then it should work on the A-200 as well.

Sounds like the A-200 can see the files, but when you click on them what exactly do you get? A black screen for a few seconds with may be a buffering message, or does it immediately return to the previous screen?

Do you have a firewall on your PC, sometimes a firewall will prevent access from certain IP's, check by disabling the firewall first.

the a-110 is a wired connection and yes it returns almost immediately to the previous screen. I do have Bit Defender installed on my Win7 machine but the a-110 sees everything fine and it is an exception in my firewall rule. i'll try your suggestion of setting up shares for my drives and see if that works though it's almost the same as running through ihome lite as long as they are visible to the unit isn't it??

RE: Multiple nmt units in the same network
How far is the a200 located from the wireless router? If the signal is not strong it cuts down drastically on the available bandwidth. I had to extend my network due to my house having deadspots where my wifes office is, he pc could only be connected via wireless and she was only getting 1-2 bars at any time. It would take forever for webpages to load up and file transfers were extremely slow as well. I ended up putting another wireless router in the room next to her office as that is the only other room we had ethernet cable run and now shes connected at 98-100% and everything responds very quickly, like the other pcs in my home connected via ethernet.

It's not more the 20 feet away and clear line of sight,

I would turn off the firewall just in case, test it, you can always turn in back on. If your A-200 has a static IP, set that as an exception in your W7

Make sure that you have password protection turned off and guest user allowed for the shares on your W7 machine.

Try first playing a movie using the file browser on your A-200, if you can make that work then you can play with myihome...
