Multiple songs in Music Jukebox (Release 8.1) song lists
Hi,
I bought a C-200 last week, and installed Music Jukebox Release 8.1 a few days ago. Hope this is the correct place to place a question about it. The problem I am facing is that for most of the cd's I put on the hard disk, the songs appear twice in the list of songs that belong to a certain cd. I ripped my cd collection with Itunes on a MacBook, and uploaded these via ftp to the C-200 harddisk. These songs are mp3's. These songs are typically listed as _01 Hot Head _02 Ashtray Heart [...] Hot Head 03:23 Ashtray Heart 03:25 [...] The songs with the underscore in the title don't play, don't show the length and don't show any ID3 tags. The mp3 songs play without a problem. The songs are called 01 Hot Head.mp3, 02 Ashtray Heart.mp3, etc I also uploaded a cd with songs in .wma format, these are listed correctly. Is this a known bug? Is there something I can do to prevent it? I don't feel like editing all xml files.... Thanks, André |

Do the files starting with the underscore actually exist on your C-200 or are they 'phantom' songs. If they exist and have a different file extension than the MP3 songs, remove that file extension from the list of music filetypes and regenerate. They should not appear now. Let me know... |

There are some differences: - The C-200 folders have a .bak file for each mp3. I don't know how they got there, there were not on my Macbook, and I think they weren't there after my first First''Generate HTML' command (I did this twice, the second time selected 'Delete all HTML First'). Does the MJB create these? - a playlist.jsp file. - the C-200 folders have 2 jpg's, Folder.jpg and Folder_small.jpg. Theses are the album art pictures. I deleted the .bak files from one folder, ran Generate HTML again (Delete all HTML First selected), but I still got duplicate entries. The back files are called '01 Hot Head.mp3.bak' etc. 'Bak' is not in my Music Extensions list.... I noticed there is a 'create backup file' option if you edit ID3 tags, but I did not do that. I am just testing with a small selection of my cd's, so I could simply delete all files and try again. The only thing that is suspect for me - as I haven't figured out how MJB works - is the .jsp file. But I guess that was added by MJB? I'll wait for another suggestion, if not, I will remove all the music and start again from scratch. Cheers, André |

A file named Debug.xml will be created in the MJData folder (Start Menu/Music Jukebox/MJData Folder option). This will tell us why we are getting the songs twice... |

RE: Multiple songs in Music Jukebox (Release 8.1) song lists
Hi Wandidj,
Ok, I more or less solved the problem. As said, I did this on a MacBook, in combination with a virtual Windows XP environment. From the debugger file, I learned that there were hidden files in the folders on the PCH that I could not see on the Mac. They were visible in XP, though. They are called ._01 HotHead.mp3 ._02 Ashtray Heart.mp3 etc. Thus, the original mp3 file name with a dot and an underscore put before it. They a have a size of 4 - 16 Kb, and are not mp3 files - they can't be played. They were created before I installed MJB, so I did some testing with a new upload. What I found out is, that these files are created if I upload the songs via Samba in Mac OSX (10.5.8). These files are not created if I upload them from within XP. I didn't know anything about Samba when I bought the PCH, and I did not have a closer look yet, but it must be the combination MAC - Samba - PCH. Creating the hidden files might be an option that can be switched off somewhere, I don't know. A solution could also be to add an option to ignore hidden files in MJB. I will use XP for future uploads, guess that will solve the problem. BTW I completely overlooked the MJB documentation that came with the installation file - great work! It will help me fine-tuning the MJB without having to find out things myself, as I was afraid I had to do... Thanks, André |

I copy the contribution that contains the most important information here: "Ok you can solve this in Mac OSX by following the procedure below : 1. Open Terminal. 2. Execute this command: Code: defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true3. Either restart the computer or log out and back in to the user account. See also : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1629 but be aware : http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21373?viewlocale=en_US" I haven't tried this myself, having the XP alternative available. Cheers, André |
