Can any NMT based players read YAMJ on NAS directly?
Hello All,

I've been spending a few weeks already researching on the best boxes for my network and media player setup and requirements, and I'd love to buy one media player soon. I just need help on one thing.

I store all my movie files on my QNAP NAS and would like to run YAMJ on it. I'm aware that PCH can have its index.html file point to the YAMJ files on the NAS so that when you turn on your PCH, it'll just load (with one click or a couple) the YAMJ video jukebox. My questions are:

(1) Can you do the same setup on all NMT-based players (e.g. EGreat, HDX)?
(2) Is this type of setup or behavior a media player functionality? Is this called HTTP media streaming? (if I read the features of a media player, I don't know what to look for to determine if the player can read YAMJ off the NAS)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

RE: Can any NMT based players read YAMJ on NAS directly?
When your looking at the specs of non-popcorn hour models of network media tanks:

- All nmt players are pretty much the same thing as far as the guts.. They are just A110s, A200s or C200s...
- The a110s are the ones with the sigma 8635 chipset
- The rest are 200s
- The a200 versions only support simple bluray menus
- the c200 versions support full bluray menus.
- the 200 models are the newer ones with the faster chipset, can use flashlite applications and will get teh new richui and popapps, the a110s are basically discontinued but it may fit your needs and they are lower in cost and if your lucky popcorn hour may have some refurbs in stock for even lower cost.

basically the difference between brands is really the case, although you may need to wait for firmware to be available from your specific brand player (or use the online update from the player itself to play it safe)..

nas's:
- all nmt models work about the same when it comes to talking to remote files.
- you'll have no issues with the qnap and any nmt model

YAMJ:
- yamj is 2 parts.. the part you run, you normally run from a computer and it makes a jukebox.
- part 2 is the part you use from the nmt, that part can easily store anywhere and no computer is needed for watching videos and using the interface
- when your media collection changes you run part 1 again to make a new part 2.

YAMJ ON QNAP:
- in theory, you can run yamj directly from the qnap. the qnap has java and meets the requirements for yamj to operate.
- I know some users with the arm based models have installed java and yamj and you'll find details on this in the qnap forum although it might be in this forum, I forget.
- I do not know anyone who setup the intel based models to run yamj but again in theory its possible and should work but there is no instructions for how to do this readily available.

Hi Accident,

Thanks for the quick reply. Appreciate it. I'm also fine with the above procedure as you described.

When I turn on PCH, I go to the video icon. When I click on that video icon, will it run the jukebox automatically from my NAS? Or do I need to find a certain jukebox file on the NAS and click on that before I see anything? Thanks!
