Must reboot PCH to regain access to external Seagate drive
I bought a Seagate 2TB Expansion Drive, don't do it (more on that later). It is attached to my A-110 USB port, formatted in ext3 and I guess I have to say that it generally works. However, After a few hours of inactivity, if I try to play a movie from it or if I try to write something to it, I'm not able to. To fix this, I must reboot the A-110.

Prior to using this drive I had used a couple of others without any issues.

Is any one having similar issues with the Seagate 2TB Expansion drive? Or the same issue with other drives? Any known fixes?

More on the Seagate 2TB Expansion. I picked it up because it was cheap. When I first started using it with the A-110 it was making clicking noises and the A-110 frequently lost its connection. I reformatted the drive to Ext3 from NTFS and the clicking stopped but the odd behavior described above continued.

Thanks for taking the time.

RE: Must reboot PCH to regain access to external Seagate drive
The problem lies in it's power management

lot's of issues with this drive, the Seagate Manager utility will fix it by setting the spindown to off
but I don't know if the setting is saved to the drive or just windows have a look at the Seagate site

All advice is supplied packaged by intellectual weight, and not by volume. Contents may settle slightly in transit.

Exactly right. Changing power management in Seagate Manager did the trick. Thanks zombiehunter.
