Problem with Mac and HDD
Hi, first of all, sorry for my english, I hope it will be understood by you.
I have connected PCH-A110 by ethernet to a router, and by wifi a Macbook with Snow Leopard. By using Samba I can see the movies in the NMT on my mac, but when I try to move some files to NMT, it returns an error message tha says I have not write permissions on the disk. How can I change it? Thanks

Is the disk in the NMT formated as NTFS or HFS, if it is NTFS, the Mac does not have native write ability to NTFS, you will need a 3rd party driver. I use Paragon NTFS driver, but there are free drivers also, like NTFS-3g. PCH A-100, A-110 & A-200 |

RE: Problem with Mac and HDD
You don't need any driver over the network.. If the drive was directly attached to his mac, ok but that is not what he stated.
What account are you using to access the share on the popcorn? And this disk is internal to your popcorn and apps installed using samba sharing, etc. I assume. |

Well he did not say how he was writing to the drive, I assumed he might have used the USB functionality since he did not say he was using ftp to write to the drive. PCH A-100, A-110 & A-200 |

What??
He states "By using Samba I can see the movies in the NMT on my mac" Why in the world would he state he can view files using samba (network protocol). And then be plugging it in with USB to try and write files?? How does that make any sense? But sure guess its possible -- laurasirco is that what your doing? |

RE: Problem with Mac and HDD
Oh, thanks for the answers. I use Samba to connect to the NMT. In finder by "smb://<IP OF NMT>" and entering "nmt" as user and "1234" as password. Then it appears in Finder the disk, its called "shared" and I can watch the movies in there, and I suppose I can copy to my computer. But the problem is that I cant do it from my computer to the NMT.
I have both HFS+ and NTFS drivers in the Mac too, but I saw somewhere that if you dont connect to NMT by USB it isnt necessary. The disk in the NMT is inside it. I bought it with the NMT and I think its formated in Linux format. This is the message that appears when I try to copy files to the NMT: "One or several items cannot be copied in “share” because it does not have reading permission. Do yo wish to copy only the items that it can read?" (in spanish, I have translated it) It also request me the user and the password of my mac before try to copy the files. |

RE: Problem with Mac and HDD
I'm guessing the OP created custom directory names in the share.
Try copying into the "Download" folder compared to other directories, you'll get to the bottom of this permissions issue. The "Download" folder as created in setup is set to allow everyone to write to it while the others require you to use File Mode to mark files in the download folder and MOVE them to other directories. Sorry, I cant find the "Download" folder, in the hard disk of the NMT only appears "Video" "Music" "Photo" "lost+found" folders. I try to create one folder in there, but this time it says that im not allowed to create it because i havent permissions. |

Just download cyberduck and use it to connect as ftp.
This should work. Marc |

RE: Problem with Mac and HDD
""One or several items cannot be copied in “share” because it does not have reading permission. Do yo wish to copy only the items that it can read?""
So exactly how are you trying to copy?? Your trying to copy to or from the NMT, and your on your MAC when you do this. So on your Mac you have a video file you want to copy to the nmt -- so on your mac your doing a copy of the file (which you have permissions on your mac to read/copy, etc) And your trying to paste it into the video folder on the NMT.. So the drive in the NMT was formatted by the NMT correct?? You did not format it with some other system before you put it into the NMT? It didn't come pre-installed did it? You installed the drive, it formatted it and installed the apps, etc. Its strange that you do not see a download or podcast folder? under share. |

RE: Problem with Mac and HDD
I have 10.6.4 installed.
The disk is in Linux format, and if I connect by SMB I can get the free space of the disk, as if I could drop files in there, but if I connect by FTP, using Finder or Cyberduck I can only read the files, and it doesnt appears the free space of the disk. I dont know how can I change this, maybe formatting the partition into NTFS, but I cant do it, because I have about 250 gb and I cant move it to nowhere... Other problem I have is this: The NMT is always connected to the Internet by cable, so in theory it have alwais the same internal IP, like 192.168.1.4 or something like that, but it is always changing. How can I make the NMT have a permanent IP? |
