Popcorn A110 Successor
Hello:

I have a Popcorn A110 with which I am very happy.
I wanted to buy a second one, but it appears that it's no longer current.

Which model has now at least the same functionalities for a comparable price, please?

Would it be the S210? I do not need an internal HD.

Thanks

Regards,

Christophe

Does it mean that the A200 is noisy unlike the A110?

Depends on who you ask.

C-200, A-110 both playing from a DIY Linux Raid 5 server.

Remuxes, Captures and Transcodes done on a desktop running;
Win7, Intel i7 hexacore processor with 24 GB ram, WD VR OS drive and a WD Black 2 TB data drive.

My A-200 fan was only audible in very quiet scenes in a film. I swapped to the Moovika case as it looked nicer, as well as it being totally quiet.

My experience as well, I could only hear the fan when everything else was off. That was still enough for me to go totally fanless though. However for the cost of the Moovika case + the A200 you're almost at C200 price so it may be worth buying the instead. Even if you have no need for an internal drive or to add a bluray rom (my case as well, although I am running a CF card internally with a SATA -> CF Card adapter to allow skinning) you have more options for future expansion plus you get the RF remote if that matters to you.

Apparently the rebranded IOBOX is an awesome substitute

Nice looking unit. How well do they support the firmware fixes? The support PCH gives to their firmware has always been a big drawing card for me.

Not too sure but judging by this comment, the unit is very well made

"I have used this box for several days now, "mistreating" it as bad as I could, and can't fault it. Great unit! I have no idea why people insist on PCH, while this unit is way better built and has several advantages as discussed elsewhere (aluminum case, on/off switch, front ports to name a few)." - maxxx (Las Vegas)"

RE: Popcorn A110 Successor
The IOBox came out at the time of the A100. It is an older player now in terms of the chip, 8635, and cpu power, 333mhz vs 667mhz+333mhz of the 8643 chip.

It will be as stable as the A100 and like the A100 will not have DTS downmix. Dragontech didn't go down the DTS licensing root.

You should be able to pick one up very cheap though now.

RE: Popcorn A110 Successor
most of my tvs are 100HDs and they work reliable.. there are some firmwares with dts downmix but usually another even more important format is missing (like ac3)... they are not the a110 successor, they are basically the a110 in another case...

RE: Popcorn A110 Successor
I looked at the A200 for about 5 mins read about the heat issues, the grotty plastic case was the deciding factor went for a C200 instead

I'm still waiting for the A210 with proper case and passive cooling. All the other rooms in my house are screaming for one Smile Syabas has grown quite nicely, they should be able to handle the increased shipping cost due to the extra weight soon! Big Grin
