[S-210] running an app at boot time??
I am working on a solution on how to run programs at boot time on my popcorn hour s-210 digital signage NMT.
It is basically a modified a-100 that lacks the option of a internal hard drive and has everything burnt to flash. I can run a telnet root console, but the problem is that anything I run at runtime is erased and reset on power loss since the system is booted from the original image every-time. For instance if I add the run command to ftpserver.sh it is erased after reboot. I am the point where I am pretty sure that I have to deconstruct the original firmware image and add some command to a script that is run at boot and put that whole image back together. I would be glad if anyone has some advice how to do that and if it is even possible. If there is some other solution for running an app or script at boot-time on the s-210 I would very much appreciate it.. since that is all I need because the program can be saved and run from the USB flash drive with no problems. Thanks. |

RE: [S-210] running an app at boot time??
I thought they came with a 2 GB flashdisk, apart from the one that stores the firmware etc?
Sorry I don't know the innards of this box. Do they come with FTP service? The original A100 hack relies the ftp service to execute a community startup script from the root of the local hdd (e.g. non-flash). Have a look and lundman.net for more details. Perhaps it is possible to attach a USB memory stick or use NFS to achieve what you want? Audio, video, disco - I hear, I see, I learn. Wiki. Wiki? Wiki! |

RE: [S-210] running an app at boot time??
There is a USB stick of 2gb. That is the flashdisk you refer to.
The problem is that that flash is meant for storing content and the system does not store anything on it. Yes, there is a ftp daemon that runs at boot. The problem is that the ftpsrever.sh file that is used on the a-100 to run other user added services is mounted from the original image each time so no changes can be made on the box.. except if I am missing something. Actually that is not true, one can change that, but the changes are reset at reboot, since the system resides in "ram" during runtime. So if anyone has other advice. |

considering this is a commerical product meant for offices and stores, you might want to reach out to syabas and see if they could just add this to a firmware for you.. it's not like its us "kiddies" trying to hack apart the box..
