Embedded subs in mkv container
I have a NMT a-110 and haven't been able to get embedded subs to work playing from an mkv file. What can I do to get this to work? I'm probably leaving out helpful information, so let me know if you need any further information.

I have an A-110 as well and the Subtitle button on the remote enables/disables subtitle display for me, are you saying yours doesn't work this way?

Yes, I can turn the option ON/OFF, but no subs ever display during the movie. When I get home I'll post some data from the mkv files I'm trying to play and maybe I'm missing something.

I see the same issue, my file are made with MakeMKV and contains only one subtitle. When I try to use it on my A-110 it does not show only says something like "Subtitle not supported".

When trying the same file on my A-200 it works just fine.

I have the same problem on my A-100, getting "Subtitle not supported".

RE: Embedded subs in mkv container
Hi,

I'm having the same problem.
Have tried the following
- rip Bluray to .mkv using MakeMKV. On my PC, the subs play fine, on the PCH A110, I can enable the subs, but they won't display
- rip Bluray to .mkv using DVDFab 8, with the subs embedded in the MKV. Again, plays on the PC, but the same behaviour on the PCH.
- rip Bluray to .mkv with subs in separate files .idx and .sub. The PCH stops playing the video file as soon as the first subtitle has to appear, strange.

Hope someone can tell me how to rip my Blurays to an HD-container with subtitle play on the PCH.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Embedded subs in mkv container
Have you set a subtitle language in the NMT settings?

For OP:
What kind of subtitle format are you embedding? (SubRip .srt, MicroDVD .sub etc. - as per supported formats)
Have you checked the character encoding, if it's text based formats? (UTF-8 ...?)

@Borgen
What subtitle format is used? pgs or something else? I think Bluray pgs works on A200 in MKV, but I'm not sure on 100-series.

@btmail01
sub/idx: did MakeMKV re-encode the Bluray pgs subs?

Audio, video, disco - I hear, I see, I learn.

RE: Embedded subs in mkv container
MakeMKV does not convert the subtitles at all, they are still PGS. AFAIK the A110 series is not able to play them, I am trying atm to rip the subtitle into its own file and will test if my A110 (newest firmware) will play them. Not to hopeful so since it is still in PGS format just a separate container (idx + sub). Will report back later.

Note:
Extracting the subs did not help. So for now the A110 does not support Bluray subs in an mkv container.
