If you read up on TEMPEST and why it exists (to prevent the detection of just the sort of emissions the detector vans, er, detect) then I think it's very likely that it is true - apparently the detector vans can detect the TVs local oscillator and this capability may be an offshoot of the intelligence service research. |

I had this conversation with them just over a year ago. I thought it was suspicious since I had always been led to believe otherwise so I phoned back to speak to someone else who also confirmed it, leaving absolutely no doubt. It's infinitely more sensible that way. You can still get a black & white licence I think (he says, trying to picture his renewal form), which I know was the minimum required to cover you for radio as well. I've no idea whether you need a licence to listen to BBC radio these days though. Thoughts on Syabas support? Share them here |

The Radio licence was scrapped in 1971. No discounts for being legally deaf were available. You do not require a TV licence to listen to the radio. |

RE: BBC iPlayer?
Interestingly since this implementation of iPlayer doesn't include the live streams, only the catchup services, it means that no licence is required.
So long as you're in the UK of course! Thoughts on Syabas support? Share them here |

RE: BBC iPlayer?
MAC users can get the iPlayer on the mac free with this software
get iPlayer Automator. I asked about the iPlayer here years ago and got no answer and i found the above software that gives us all the current BBC content free. |
