Nintendo Wii Hard drive
So...ive been wondering for a while about something. Currently, I have a nintendo Wii with a hard drive attached to it to run my backups. Using Backup Loader, to run the games off of the Hard Drive. To transfer games to and from the hard drive when it gets full. I connect it to my laptop and use WBFS Manager to transfer the games. So the hard drive is formatted WBFS format.

The hdd is at my entertainment center, with the tv (duh), and the wii. It is a pain to unhook it and take it to my computer to transfer stuff. I was wondering if there is a way to connect it to my A-200 and somehow transfer games that way???????

RE: Nintendo Wii Hard drive
i dont think that the wbfs partition would show up on the network for the manager to access i'd say that if you have a laptop invest in a 3 meter usb cable off amazon.

which backup loader do you use, i've been planning on getting a wii and making backups so my disks dont get beaten up from over use like my ps2 games have. so far usb loader gx looks the best to me since it will make the backup to the hdd directly from the disk.

saving up to get a c-200 took priority over a wii but its next on my list after getting a few hdd for it and my pch.

RE: Nintendo Wii Hard drive
I use CFG loader, IMHO its the best loader as it can update itself via the internet and can set options for each game.

Do a search for 'ModMii' Its a program that will make a guide for soft modding your wii and setup a usb loader.

RE: Nintendo Wii Hard drive
too bad none of them seem to do gc backups. but your right the CFG loader does look better than GX. one thing i couldnt get from the info pages for modmii is can it mod a 4.3 to 4.3 or does it have to downgrade?
sorry jhmiller and to the mods for how off topic this has gotten.

RE: Nintendo Wii Hard drive
While we're on the platform of Wii, try WiiMC (http://www.wiimc.org/). It's rather nice. Since I only have on old SD TV I consider running WiiMC rather than my PCH A110 since browsing is way faster than on the PCH-A110.

Would it be possible to generate a moviecollection on the PCH, browse it on the Wii, choose what film to watch and let the PCH play the movie?
Since I have them on different channels on my TV I would simply have to switch channel but gain much in browsing speed...

@dpslusser:
As Daminite noted, it's highly unlikely that the PCH will recognize the format, let alone allow you to write to it across the network. You may have better luck with a router that has a USB port for network storage. You may run into the same problems though, if the router is limited to recognizing just a few file formats. Be careful that your router doesn't try to format what it thinks is an empty drive.

Maybe a USB powerline adaptor would work for you.

RE: Nintendo Wii Hard drive
Modmii can do 4.3 wii's but will need either of 2 games (lego batman dont know other) to get it to work, all this will be explained in the guide generated by Modmii.

Just run Modmii and just follow the instrustions.
Forgot to add that the wii also supports ntfs for games, so i theory you could use the drive that way.

RE: Nintendo Wii Hard drive
an ntfs partition would most likely work but if you switched over to it you would loose all of the benefits of using wbfs like installing the games from disc and i have yet to hear of a loader that doesnt have some kind of stability issue with ntfs.

just like with the pch i spend a lot of the time i'm saving up for something doing research on it and in the wii's case on softmods, although once i found http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/ i hadnt bothered to do much other than keep up with changes due to fw updates. mod mii will definitely make things easier since i wont have to get the various files myself.

RE: Nintendo Wii Hard drive
I had to come back and give 2 thanks on this thread. The first, to Daminite, for making me look closer at the GX loader and finding that I could use it to back up disks from the wii's dvd drive. (Note: I wasn't the one who set up the wii so, other than torrents, I didn't know how images got put on the harddrive.)

The second thank goes to AlramEast for mentioning WiiMC. I downloaded it and got it set up rather quickly, though I had to do a few other things before I could get the channel part installed. But installed it is and working great. It accesses the samba share on my NMT and plays back almost everything on the nmt's harddrive. A very good solution for my second room.

RE: Nintendo Wii Hard drive
from what i've just read since having it brought to my attention, the CFG loader seems to be able to install games to the hdd too and has more options so it looks to be the better one but i wont know anything for sure till i get a wii and mod it for myself. i'm trying to find a pre lu64(editable boot 2 for bootmii) model that i was going to put in a chameleon casemod but i just looked and its discontinued :cries:

RE: Nintendo Wii Hard drive
The friend who did the initial modding installed both CFG & GX. Since my use of either, until last night, has been solely to play games previously installed on the harddrive, I saw no difference in either loader. If they both can make backup images to the drive, then they are for my purposes truly identical. They both have cover art and can force NTSC-mode on PAL images. I am not aware that I need any other options.
