RE: When will we see new Popcorn with SMP 8910 ?
Yep the Dune had no 8910 chip inside it apparently, like others have said they have been claiming to release a 8910 chip player for the last three years.

It will be interesting to see if the chip is as poorly supported as usual by Sigma or whether they will make an effort, given the time it is taking and the fact that it is the next gen, and produce a chip with supporting working code.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

This is an interesting question. On the one hand you'd think they don't have whole lot of incentive to since it's the third-party partners (hardware vendors) that get beat up by their customers for putting bug-ridden players out on the market (regardless of where the problems actually lie), and they and their customers ultimately end up doing the testing and debugging that Sigma should have done in the first place.

Now whether the third-party partners are going to tolerate this any longer on an excessively-late, high-priced, premium product one can only wonder...

RE: When will we see new Popcorn with SMP 8910 ?
what is the biggest market for their chips?
Bluray players, SmartTV's, Settop boxes........ and some mediaplayers based on the chips they made for their "real" market.
Stuff we use in the way we use it is a sort of sideline, for the BD players, Tv's and set top boxes.. those major customers don't really complain about our type of SDK issues I think..
We are small fry... we are....Wink

PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10
13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box

RE: When will we see new Popcorn with SMP 8910 ?
I apologize for bumping this old thread...
Have there been any recent developments? I am looking to buy a new PCH unit (I do have a working A-100) but would rather wait if some new PCH model with Sigma SMP8910 is around the corner (By 'around the corner' I mean 6 months).
I also read somewhere that Sigma may be scrapping SMP8910?

More likely to see PCH with those Sigma chips in 6 months :

No VXP SD help and no extra power over the 300 series chip. Miss it and complete your present line-up I say.

vxp is a waste of money in my mind, direct output and let my other gear handle it better and budget chip=perfect. It's one of those catch22s where you can't have a higher end chip without it, but if you can afford a higher end chip, you don't need it.

You mean no better SD upscaling/codec for SD material? That's a bummer Sad I was looking forward to it.
What about full HD 3D support?

RE: When will we see new Popcorn with SMP 8910 ?
VXP would be great for those who have a direct PCH > TV connection. The SD quality needs an upgrade in my opinion.

The market is being led by the marketing hype for 3D these days. We get lots of requests for a full 3D player with a Sigma chip. I'm sure that they must be working on it as development on current models have stalled.

What does 'Watermark Protection' in the Audio Processing mean? Sounds very much like Cinavira.
