Support HD >2TB
Hi everyone!
Can somebody support or refuse if any Popcorn can play files from an USB hard drive having more than 2TB capacity?
If yes what model of Popcorn and HD or RAID is it?
Thanks

RE: Support HD >2TB
Provided the HDD is formatted to NTFS or EXT and not used for the NMT Apps then you can use it via a USB enclosure/connection.

There is a 2.1Tb limit presently for those 3tb HDD's that have NMT Apps installed on them.

Seen a beta tester report on a 3Tb WD HDD using the C200.

RE: Support HD >2TB
2TB limit is because of MBR partition table limit. GUID partition table must be supoorted to use larger partitions. AFAIK no NMT product does that...

I have 4TB drobo storage and PCH can't read it directly (USB) - only trough network share...

Yes, I have same problem with Mediasonic HFR2-SU2S2 RAID 10 4TB
A100 saying "USB failure"
Btw, I tried USB with NTFS GUID, Ext3 and Ext2 none of the file systems work for >2TB
So far works only USB <2TB NTFS MBR

RE: Support HD >2TB
Man oh man, I can see why people are getting confused. I'm starting to lose track.

Ok, I'll do my best here.

1) The A-100/110 units can not do drives greater then 2TB. They don't have support for GPT or 4k sector drives.
2) The 200 series can do drives >2.1TB if used as data drives and connected via SATA. They have support for both GPT and 4k sectors. These drives can not yet be used as the NMT apps drive without a lot of work.
3) I don't know of any single (ie.- one hard drive in the case) USB drive that is >2.1TB that works on the 200 series. If the mfg. says the drive works with WinXP then it probably won't work on the 200 series.
4) Raid units that connect to the 200 series via a USB connection and use GPT should work ok.

Confusing, isn't it?

Just tried to connect my 4TB drobo NTFS drive to my PCH C-200 via USB and it worked! Smile

But my PCH A-110 does not support large drives. Sad

The issue with USB drives on the 200 series is if the mfg. is doing sector level translation on the USB <-> SATA bridge chip. If they are translating then it probably won't work. They are doing this so the units work with WinXP which does not do GPT.

Your unit is not doing translation and so it works with the 200 series but wouldn't work on an XP machine.

Well, I do not mind to put more money in my home theater gears, but I'm missing too thing to be happy:
1 - support large drives >2TB RAID (I very hope C200 will do it ?????!!)
2 - support of 3D Blue-rays
It it happens, I'm yours!

I assume your talking >2TB using a USB connection by your first post?

They should work now but don't buy the package deal from a mfg.

Buy an internal SATA drive and place it in a normal USB case. Use GPT and format it with EXT3 or NTFS. It should work fine.

As long as mfgs are trying to keep compatibility with WinXP for their >2TB USB drives, they probably will never work with the 200 series. The mfgs are breaking the rules not Syabas.

Time will pass, WinXP will go away and future USB >2TB units will work fine with the 200 series PCHs.

RE: Support HD >2TB
Hi all,

Like nuke12/Chris57 said >2.1TB drives are possible via Sata provided you format the drive as NTFS.
If you let the NMT format the drive and install the apps, your 3Tb will be downsized to a 2.1Tb!!!!
This is very hard to correct if you dont know what you are doing!!!!

Syabas is currently testing a 3TB drive and will keep the Betatesters informed of its progress.
As soon as they say it is resolved we will test it.
Dont expect a fix in the upcoming release, as it is not ready yet!!

Cheers
Tom

Sorry to be a pain bud, but I would like to clarify, your post.

You can also use EXT3 (or for that matter EXT2) on drives bigger then 2TB but currently they have to be used only as data drives. You can't install the NMT apps on a drive >2TB and get the full space on the drive. It will only give you ~ 2.1TB on your >2TB drive. This hopefully will be fixed in a future firmware update.

The reason is simple. Syabas is still only using the old MBR system for the NMT apps drive. They have to move on to GPT to use the full drive space.

P.S. - all of the above only applies to the 200 series. (You have to be so careful here because it confuses the different PCH users and this is a generic thread.)

Sorry, not from me. I read posts that say "side-by-side" works but IMHO, 3D is still only a fade for the home user. The actual 3D for the home will come sometime in the future. It currently still belongs only in the theaters. This is the third (or forth) time in history that 3D has shown it's head, starting back in the 1940's or so. You can buy now, pay now and lose later. JMHO

Too bad Sad
There are quite a lot 3D stuff available on net already.
IMHO if it's possible in same way it would be hot item.

RE: Support HD >2TB
If you look at the changelog for the next firmware, there is some kind of 3D support coming.
