RE: Firmware 01-17-080612-15-POP-402 (NMT 00-17-080529) released
This is not really the problem you see ...
The main problem is that this device is not reliable. Once firmware make it read one file The second firmware can't read the file anymore. I would like to know if there is a way to make files that will be compliant, and that should not be that difficult to tell us. |

easier said than done, and i dont see hundreds of threads of ppl claiming the same problem as you. if you personally encoded them then it might be something that you are doing because my 98% of my files have worked on all builds. its not as if the firmware is taking a step backwards as u may say...there are improvements and im willing to guarantee there are more files that are supported by a new firmware than ones that no longer work. its not really possible to test every scenario imaginable

I know for a fact that the beta testers try really hard to build upon each release and report back on new bugs or things that have subsequently been broken. As Luke3001 mentions, most people manage to play the majority of supported files. Are you certain it isn't an issue with the way you are creating the file or maybe it's something bespoke that the PCH would always struggle with. It's pretty difficult to cover all varients so maybe a support email would give you some specific answers. Good luck, Shaun |

There is a guide by chris57 for encoding DVDs to x264 mkv in the Wiki, which explains in depth the different options. A FAQ for MKV file problems and remuxing/re-encoding of non-compliant MKVs is in the works. Media tank:A-100 & C-200 TV:Panasonic TH-50PY800MT (HDMI) Audio:Logitech Z-5500 (Coaxial) |

There is already a really simple, if time consuming, way to do this. Mediacoder has a PCH profile that can be loaded in the file menu. It keeps the rez the same and the bitrate as close as possible to the original and sets all parameters to PCH compliant ones. I have used it to recode 4 hd mkv movies that wouldn't work with the PCH and it came up trumps every time. Just load the profile, load the movie and hit the start button. It doesn't get much easier than that. |

^Thanks for the tip.
I did know it existed, but haven't tried it out yet. Is it compatible with the newest version of MediaCoder? If so, I will give it a go to see how it holds up against the settings I worked out with help from other forum members.

I'm not actually sure where the PCH profile is linked to anymore since they changed the forum. I've been dropping hints that the mods should make it more obvious but they seem to be ignoring me

Never...the PCH profile in media encoder is in the usefil apps for your PC or MAC' thread. Its here stickied in FAQ section:-
http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...p?tid=4588 It used to be in General Section on the old board. Do you all think it would be better in a more prominent place?
