New problem after upgrade
The upgrade went fine, but I have a new annoying problem now. When ever I stop a movie, the screen turns on and off (turns black) twice and in between the menu shows and then disappears untill finally coming back the second time. I have a plasma from Panasonic. I am using 720p60.

Also I have question regarding the "added TV Mode 1360x768 60Hz". What is it good for, when will I be using this feature?

the 1360*768 mode is for all the hdtv lcd that doesn't do 1366. Wich in my opinion is almost all non full hd ones.

So you should be using this if you have a lcd hdtv that can do that input

Most panel are native 1366x768 but some won't accept that resolution, which is stupid as hell because most tvs doesn't do 1:1 in those cases, unless they keep 3 black pixel on each end.

It is because 1366 isn't dividable by 8, which makes it nonstandard, my TV only does 1360, and it crops 3 columns from each side of the screen, to maintain 1:1 pixel aspect.

My plasma is 1024x768! :? Has wide pixels apparently. It's a 42".

I normally use 720p @ 60hz, but I tried the 1360x768 out of interest. I couldn't believe how much sharper it was! And it meant that all of my mkv's fit to the screen properly, nothing being chopped off at the sides.

Then to my horror realised that HDMI isn't passing the audio over to my amp in this resolution Sad
Only seems to pass the audio over when in 720p or 1080i mode (not a 1080p TV).

Is this because it's in DVI/PC mode perhaps? I'm not sure! Means it may be worth me investing in a coax cable for the digital audio though.

Kind of annoying!

Oh well, just read you can use a standard RCA cable as a coax digital audio cable. So will try using one of those instead. Guess 1 more wire won't make much of a difference! Big Grin

i agree the problem is there is no chance for syabas or sigma to change that because this are the standards for hdmi Sad you must know most devices like blu ray players and many other devices only support 480 576 720 and 1080 resolution!

Yeah sorry, i'm aware it's not the fault of the PCH/syabas/sigma! Just a limitation of HDMI that I wasn't aware of.

Ways round it though so I should stop bitching! hehe

Is that what you do then werner? HDMI for video, coax for audio?
I take it that there's no difference in quality because it's digital?

yes i do that also because i have an good dvi video projector and i wont switch as long as my old one works so nice Smile so right now my setup is hdmi from popcorn to dvi of my videoprojector and coax from my popcorn to coax of my av receiver.

My second setup is the same for an Plasma hdmi to TV and coax to receiver Smile

i think i wont use the hd audioformats as long as i can because i cant hear an difference on my setups (have an good home cinema based on Teufel) and wont spend lots of mony to get an new receiver and an new beamer maybe also because i dont need it.

werner

I just don't like the mandatory HDCP. but as the almighty MPAA has decreed it, we must endure the butt rape, for now
