Feature request: playing of MOV files from Canon EOS cameras

I realise that this has been discussed here before here and here for example.
There is a work around which is time consuming and not something that I could expect my parter to do. These are currently the only files we have which won't play on either of our PCH's. Could we please have the PCH A110 have native support for these files without any demux/muxing? I'm happy to supply example files. |

RE: Feature request: playing of MOV files from Canon EOS cameras
If you're talking 500D files - as I mentioned before, you can see when remuxing and demuxing the files that the streams themselves are not created in a "standard" way. I would assume this makes it extremely difficult for the PCH to "parse" them. Unless you're talking about movies with a couple of hours, you're only talking about a minute or two to process (which could be automated using a batch file I'm sure). The Canon camcorders use AVCHD (M2T) for storage, which makes it far easier, I don't know why Canon chose this container (and in my opinion totally dumb framerate options) in the early EOS's.

Yeah, I appreciate that it's not actually a problem with the PCH, but I figured that since it handles other formats with "iffy" encoding, I wondered if they could make these work too. It would be so nice to be able to simply transfer them to the PCH and watch. I think these files are going to become more and more common - I don't have an early EOS, it's a current model (60D).

RE: Feature request: playing of MOV files from Canon EOS cameras
Cool, at least this is working with the correct framerates then! It might be that these work simply with a remux to MKV then (IIRC, the PCH also had trouble with the 1CH PCM from the files I tried from my camera) - I think the newer cameras are using 2CH PCM for the audio?.
For sure, it's a pain, so hopefully they spot the multitude of threads and take a look at it, I just wouldn't get your hopes up though ;-) Cheers, -jj- PCH C-200 + LG GGC-H20L internal Blu-ray drive · YAMJ plus Aeon Wall · Samsung LE-46A956 · Sony STR-DG820 · JBL CS 1500 · 2 x 40TB Unraid servers |

Hehe, I thought it was worth a try to bring it up. Lots of reports, but nobody (that I could see) adding the feature request.
I've not actually noticed whether mine is spitting out 1CH or 2CH PCM, I must look. |
