NMT BitTorrent and scheduling
I have looked everywhere for this info, so either I'm stupid/blind (possible...even likely) or the info is not easily available.

Let's hope for the latter.

Got the BitTorrent client running on my c200 and it downloads no problem.

Have set a global schedule so that it only downloads late at night when i don't need the bandwidth, but the client seems to ignore my schedule. i.e. the files continue to download happily even if the scheduler says they shouldn't.

Tried setting schedule for individual torrents (I currently have 4 test torrents running) and they are ignored too.

Does the scheduler work in any way shape or form, and if so, are there some quirky non-intuitive steps I have missed out?

RE: NMT BitTorrent and scheduling
The scheduler works, but not as good as it should. I'm guessing this is the built in Torrent client on the C-200 your using...

Not a good choice. See the BitTorrent client built into the C-200 is an older version of Transmission that isn't that good. limited to up to 1-3gb to download. 4gb and higher and it will choke usually.

This isn't your problem, but I've known the built in scheduler on the built in client not to work properly when setting a time for it to download and stop downloading. pretty much the built torrent client sucks on several levels.

There luckily is an alternative to this though and it's a user built version of Transmission for the PCH. Your going to need to install: NMT Community Software Installer

This will allow you to install CSI apps to the popcorn hour, some people are not interested, others are, in this case were just installing one app and that is transmission. Once you put in your Popcorn hour's user name and password.
default username is: NMT
default password is: 1234

This only applies if you haven't changed the username or password on the PCH.

Once in, you got easy access to the repository. Scroll all the way down till you find transmission. There are two versions it will show.

Transmission 2.13 which is the stable release and Transmission 2.21 which is the Beta release with DHT.

Either one you can pick. They both work better than the built in client. Just select one, hit next, hit next again and it will install the app once done, go over it's description and click the webservices link and it will bring up a nice web interface to access.

Much nicer than the built in one.

Once the web interface is up click the gear at the very bottom, select prefrences, select the speed tab, and you got option to set times to download with it.

this one's scheduling feature works much better compared to the inbuilt client plus you got a nice web interface to check on the progress of the torrents so you don't have to access it all the time on the PCH to see how far it's gone with the download.

Now an even nicer thing about this version of transmission is that you can install Transmission Remote GUI on your PC and now you have a uTorrent like GUI that is more feature rich than the web client. Just connect it to transmission on the popcorn hour using your networks main IP address (Go to whatismyip and it will show you.)

Put that IP in the connection field and for remote host put down something simple like "Popcorn hour". The port should be 9091. Everything else should be left blank. and press ok. It access transmission on the popcorn hour with ease and like I said, you get more options, and more features compared to the inbuilt one.

A big answer but a complete one...thank you! I really appreciate your effort, and I'll have a go at some point in the next few weeks and let you know how I get on...sounds a bit tricky for me!

RE: NMT BitTorrent and scheduling
OK, another quick Q: is there a way to import the part-downloaded torrents I'd already started with the built-in BitTorrent into Transmission 2.21? Seems a shame to have to start again when I had got so far with them!

Scrub that - just loaded the original torrents and it found the part-downloaded files in my download folder and is as I type this verifying them and importing them.

All seem to work beautifully, including Remote GUI...will test over the next few days...THANKS AGAIN!

RE: NMT BitTorrent and scheduling
Me again!

Scheduling.

the only scheduler I can see is the "alternative bandwidth" settings...is this correct?

RE: NMT BitTorrent and scheduling
Off the top of my head, I can't recall if setting 0 bandwidth disallows all up/down traffic or if it removes the limit, but the alternative bandwidth is indeed the scheduler.

RE: NMT BitTorrent and scheduling
Thank you for this information. I will use the alternative Torrent client as well since the original version causes several crashes (hang-ups) per week on my PCHY C200.

Here "0" means no traffic.

RE: NMT BitTorrent and scheduling
Hi,
a good thing is that not only me finds built-in torrent in A200 to be bad.
My main complaint is not the scheduler (it does nto work for me at all though), but bandwidth regulation.
It seems that torrent in my A200 ignores given upload and download max numbers and consumes entire internet connection, thus leaving no bandwidth for anyone else, inclusing A200 web browser.

Thank you for the alternative torrent, but I seem to be computer illiterate here. This community installer file (.zip one), what should I do with it ? And where do I put it on the PC so that A200 can use it ?

PS. My A200 does not have mouse or keyboard, so I cannot type in this url in its web browser to download there directly.

Thanks
SR
