Move all movies from Intermal HD -> NAS
Hi there

I'm standing in Front of a time-problem...

Until today I had a A110 with a 1TB Hard-Disk inside.
Now I just got my NAS up and running.

So the Idea is to move all movies from the 1TB PCH HD to the new NAS.
But if I mount both Devices on my Computer and "drag&drop" them, I get a mind-blowing speed of ~3MB/s...
This way it would take about 3 Days to copy all the Files I want to the NAS.

My NAS (Synology DS211+) could handle Gigabit Network Speed...
Is there a way I can attach the 1TB Harddisk of my pch directly to the computer and get a better transfer rate?
I know, pch's HD is ext3.. and I use Windows7 so there's the next problem.

What way do you suggest to solve this problem?

Thank you in advance
Regards

RE: Move all movies from Intermal HD -> NAS
I don't know much about stand alone NAS's but if possible use FTP... its about 10x faster.

There's a FTP server built-in to the PCH, so all you need is a client on the NAS to log into the PCH

Pannasonic Plasma 50" -->HK254-->Emotiva xpa-5 & upa-2
A100 w/ 500gb HDD, A200 w/ mn100, c200 w/ 2.5" 250gb
Calm 2.1, YAMJ - Redefined 1.8a skin, Music Jukebox 8
WHS ex490 w/ 2.5tb's

RE: Move all movies from Intermal HD -> NAS
use EXT2FSD and u can plug the pch into computer.

Its freeware.

Power off the unit fbefore taking the usb out .. thats just from my experience or sometimes the pch doesnt identify a HDD being in it unitil its restarted after the plug is removed Smile

I was getting 19mb on a A200 on W7 PC

-PCH A200 + 2TB WDEARS internal - NTFS
-4GB micro usb - NMT Apps
-Netgear Stora 4TB (2 x 2TB WDEARX)
-Panasonic 42" Plasma
-YAMJ w/ Unique Black Glas.Heart

I was able to start a wget session. its running at 4MB/s but at least i dint have to let my computer running.

Well seems you got it going already - but I would of just booted a linux live CD and had direct access to the disk your PC -- they you would of gotten full gig speeds and full HDD access speed with native driver for filesystem.

RE: Move all movies from Intermal HD -> NAS
some nas do have usb ports.....

and A-1x0 is a usb hard drive with ext2/3 you can just plug it in the nas and then "download" or "backup" the whole hard drive from usb to Nas ^^

after that sorting stuff on your Nas over windows shared folders is fast ( i just sends the move command instead of copying all to pc and then back to nas )

i just found that out as my older nas box was a small linux thingy which could backup FAT and FAT32 (ext2/3 was no where stated as the manufacturer didn't think about usb sticks with that :-) ) but it also supported ext2/3 and was faster with that as the filesystem was close to its own inside!

RE: Move all movies from Intermal HD -> NAS
I already got 200Gigs so I will not stop it now. But of course both ways (Linux Live CD) and if it really works, the way to attach it as usb slave, should be much faster.

I have to do the same at a friends place... I will try both ways

maybe I can even write a small tutorial on this.
